Over the past few years, Disney has gambled big on “Star Wars,” releasing several new streaming shows set in the “Star Wars” universe on their streaming service, Disney+. Unfortunately, the gamble didn't quite work out for the franchise and the shows couldn't gather enough momentum for several seasons, with “The Acolyte” being canceled after one season and “The Book of Boba Fett” and “Obi-Wan Kenobi” unlikely to see Season 2. “The Book of Boba Fett” was a little more complicated because it was so deeply connected to “The Mandalorian,” while “Obi-Wan Kenobi” was originally planned as a movie trilogy with no real plans for a Season 2, which was turned into a limited series.
While it doesn't look like “Obi-Wan Kenobi” will get a second season and the show is officially over, series star and Obi-Wan Ewan McGregor wants to reprise the role and has some ideas about what direction the series could go. The actor shared his feelings about the show and how it might continue at Los Angeles Comic-Con, and his pitch for Season 2 is what the franchise needs.
A pitch that expands and narrows the gaps in The Clone Wars
Obi-Wan has been a staple since McGregor first cast him, and he shared some cool ideas for the character's sequel with convention-goers:
“Obi-Wan Season 2… has a few things. I want to wear that armor, I was talking to someone from 'The Clone Wars' earlier. I think it would be something I would enjoy.”
He also said that going back to Clone Wars was a digital coming-of-age game because it would give him and co-star Hayden Christensen, who plays Anakin Skywalker, “a chance to really bounce back. Together again.” Although it could be argued that McGregor has aged like a fine wine, using a little digital trickery helped bring it about. Some of the best animated “Star Wars” stories would be great for live-action. It would further tie the animated canon to the live-action canon, and seeing McGregor in Clone Wars armor would be pretty cool. “Obi-Wan Kenobi” already had elements of “Star Wars: The Clone Wars”. It also almost included fan-favorite “Clone Wars” character Commander Cody, but McGregor’s suggestion for an even more crossover was spot on.
Bridging the gap between prequels and a new belief
In addition to wanting to flesh out “The Clone Wars” a bit, McGregor also floated the idea of trying to bridge the gap between the end of the first season of “Obi-Wan Kenobi” and the events of “Star Wars: Episode IV.” – A New Hope.” After all, it's been a few years between when we last saw Obi-Wan on the show and when he appeared in “A New Hope,” starring Sir Alec Guinness, and we can learn about what he's been up to on Tatooine. years. (Confused by the timeline? Don't worry, we've got a primer for that!) McGregor elaborated, “There's got to be some more story, we certainly hope, and well-researched is the telling word,” and hinted at “Obi-Wan Kenobi” and what he expects. Others may have been involved in trying to continue it.
There's one very important fan of the series who could use his pop culture influence to change the fate of Season 2: franchise creator George Lucas. Lucas apparently “loved Obi-Wan Kenobi,” and if that's not a ringing endorsement, I don't know what is. I hope McGregor gets a chance to pretend to use the Force and lightsaber sparring with Christensen again, and some of his brilliant ideas for Obi-Wan Kenobi “season 2 really pay off.
