The hype is usually well-deserved, as these veiled titles usually turn out to be massive hits, like NBA 2k21 in 2021 or Grand Theft Auto 5 in 2020. The first Epic Games Store’s mystery game for December 2023 is a bit of a surprise. The Destiny 2: Legacy Collection contains three expansions, which is more than enough content to get a new player going. While Destiny 2 is technically free-to-play, this version lacks any significant story beats, so players need to pick up a few expansions if they want to get into the game’s proper heart. The Legacy Collection comes with Shadowkeep, Beyond Light, and The Witch Queen, all of which were well received upon launch. The latter is generally regarded as the game’s high point.
Destiny 2 is set to conclude its current major arc on June 4, 2024, with the debut of The Final Shape expansion. Consequently, this is the best time to dive into this universe, and this giveaway covers most of the basics. The only missing expansions are the unavailable Forsaken and 2023’s Lightfall, the latter of which is considered Destiny 2‘s weakest expansion.
Epic Games Store’s Upcoming Free Games (Dec 20): Mystery Game
As the holiday season approaches (or starts, as some might argue), the Epic Games Store has started its mystery run. The store will be giving away another free game on December 20, 2023, but its identity will not be revealed until it is released. Epic has staged these events before, and their contents tend to be fairly unpredictable. While they can certainly result in some big giveaways, it is not a guarantee, so expectations should still be kept in check.
Generally, these promotions last for a couple of weeks, especially around this time of the year. Provided Epic sticks to its one (or two) freebies per week structure, there could be three mystery giveaways before the end of the year.
