Known to be one of the main tenets of the Jujutsu Sorcery, Binding Vows are contracts that fans have seen many times in the story already. These Binding Vows can be created by a user with themselves or between two people. Binding Vows are such that they can help accomplish a certain goal or even increase the power of a certain individual by placing some conditions on them.
Jujutsu Kaisen: Gojo’s Comeback Using A Binding Vow, Explained
Satoru Gojo might come back by using a Binding Vow in JJK.
These Binding Vows can be extremely useful in and out of combat, however, breaking them causes terrible repercussions for the user, which the story has not dove deep into yet. Fans have seen many Binding Vows in JJK over the years, with some more significant to the plot than others.
7 Revealing One’s Hand
Users: Various Sorcerers And Curses
Revealing One’s Hand is a Binding Vow that an individual places on themselves. Essentially, by revealing their technique to their opponents, the effectiveness and strength of their technique can improve drastically. Of course, this is a double-edged sword, given that revealing one’s own technique could have repercussions as well.
Not everyone relies on this technique and those who do know exactly what they’re doing. Skilled users of this technique can also fool their enemies by misleading them using carefully crafted words. That doesn’t necessarily mean that they’re lying, but doesn’t give away the whole truth.
6 Overtime
User: Nanami Kento
Overtime is a very clever Binding Vow that Nanami has placed on himself. Essentially, when using this Binding Vow, Nanami only uses 80 to 90% of his cursed energy while he’s on working hours for the Jujutsu High. However, if he ever has to work overtime, he can then make use of the remaining curse energy and push his strength to 110 to 120%.
This drastically improves his level of strength and allows him to channel incredible amounts of power, such that he can even overpower special-grade sorcerers in combat.
5 Yuji and Sukuna’s Vow
Users: Mutually Beneficial To Both Yuji And Sukuna
One of the earliest Binding Vows that fans have seen in JJK, Yuji and Sukuna’s vow was extremely essential for the story to move to where it is today. Essentially, when Yuji faced death early on in the story, Sukuna promised that he could heal him, however, in return, he would want to take control of his body for 1 minute when he said the word “Enchain.”
During this 1 minute, Sukuna promised that he would not kill anyone, however, the condition for this was that Yuji would forget that this promise between these two characters was ever made in the first place. Although Yuji initially did not want to accept this Binding Vow, he ended up making it nonetheless.
4 Kokichi Muta And Mahito’s Vow
User: Mutually Beneficial To Both Muta And Mahito
Muta and Mahito had a secret vow that was made because Mahito needed him to act as a spy and double agent for Geto and himself within the Jujutsu High. Essentially, Muta acted as a traitor, and in return, Mahito would use the power of Soul Manipulation to heal his broken-down body and rejuvenate it.
This Binding Vow was successfully completed after Muta gave him all the information that they needed and, in return, Mahito brought back his old body, immediately after which he started attacking him. Muta believed that there was a breach in this contract, given that they did attack students from Tokyo Jujutsu High, however, Mahito mentioned that he was not the one to lay a finger on the students and that it was Hanami instead. It is still unclear as to whether this contract was breached or if there were any dire consequences for it.
3 Ui Ui And Mei Mei’s Vow
User: Beneficial To Both
Ui Ui has a very bizarre contract with his own sister. Fans already know that these two have a very twisted and questionable relationship and essentially, this technique sees Ui Ui limit his cursed energy until his sister gives him permission to use it, which would presumably increase his strength or effectiveness, although that part is unclear at the moment.
Ui Ui loves to please his sister and that is why he has taken part in this Binding Vow.
2 Kenjaku And Sorcerers Vow
Users: Kenjaku And Many Ancient Sorcerers
Quite easily the most essential Binding Vow that fans have seen in the story came at the end of the Shibuya arc. Essentially, Kenjaku revealed that the cursed objects that he gave to the sorcerers were the remains of an old Binding Vow that he made around 1,000 years ago. However, he also made it known that after he obtained the body of Geto, this Binding Vow broke.
Nonetheless, after absorbing Mahito, he used his powers to remotely cast Idle Transfiguration onto those that he had marked and altered their brains to give them Cursed Techniques. He also then proceeded to break the seal on objects to reincarnate the many sorcerers that he made the pact with.
1 Yuta Okkotsu And Higher Ups Vow
Users: Beneficial Mostly For Yuta
Yuta ended up fighting against Yuji after the conclusion of the Shibuya Incident as he was announced as the executioner of the young boy. To become the executioner, he entered a Binding Vow that made him swear that he would kill Yuji.
However, it was later revealed that Gojo had already asked him to protect Yuji if something were to happen to him. Yuta certainly did kill Yuji by stabbing him through the chest, however, later, he revealed that he was a master of Reverse Cursed Technique and he immediately healed him, successfully completing his Vow in the process.
