Kirk Herbstreit's wild ride will be one of the craziest days of his career.

ABC's lead college football color commentator started his work day in Eugene, Oregon, by co-hosting “College GameDay.”

The GameDay crew, in the absence of 89-year-old Lee Corso for the second week in a row, gathered in Oregon for Saturday's game between the third-place Ducks and second-place Ohio State.

However, there was a problem – the game, which was a Big Ten contest, was broadcast on NBC, and the main ABC game was the Red River Rivalry between No. 1 Texas and No. 18 Oklahoma (it was broadcast on ABC).

Typically, Herbstreit broadcasts the game at 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC, but this assignment took place four hours earlier. Since play-by-play announcer Chris Fowler was already at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Herbstreit had to get there.

So, for the first time, he left the “GameDay” set and actually appeared in the Oregon highway episode, seemingly on his way to the airport.

To make the day even longer, Herbstreit began broadcasting at 6 a.m. Oregon time, and the Texas-Oklahoma connection began at 3:30 p.m. Eastern time.

“Everything is fine. We're going really fast now,” Herbstreit said from the track.

“It was damn cold on that road. Who ordered the convertible?!?” Herbstreit posted on X while flying over Salt Lake City. “Whatever it takes to get to the Red River Rivalry in Dallas with kickoff at 3:30 PM ET. For the first time in my life, I left a show mid-game hoping to make it to the game I was calling.”

Herbstreit didn't make it to Dallas until 45 minutes before kickoff. At 3:25 p.m. EST, five minutes before the scheduled start, he posted a video of himself being escorted by police outside the stadium.

The 55-year-old is no stranger to long days, travel and two tasks in one day. He even attended “GameDay” last week, set in Berkeley, Calif., and then called the Arkansas-Tennessee game in Fayetteville.

Herbstreit, however, will have nothing to worry about next week – he will be on duty all day in Austin, Texas, during the long-awaited Texas-Georgia matchup.
