Wings of Icarus is a new Fortnite item that has already gone through a couple of changes. Despite being in the game for less than two weeks, the item was both buffed and nerfed. Epic Games is still trying to find a perfect balance, which is why it’s no surprise that the latest change arrived on Wednesday night, just one day after the v29.01 update came out.

The latest Fortnite changes nerfed another item
The Wings of Icarus item is one of the most interesting additions in Chapter 5 Season 2. This mythology-inspired item allows you to fly quickly over the island and surprise your enemies. However, it doesn’t seem that Epic Games considers it balanced just yet. Due to this, the item has already been nerfed twice and even removed from competitive playlists.
The latest changed, which arrived on Wednesday night, increased the leap duration when launching in the air by 240%. Furthermore, Epic disabled the low gravity effect when holding wings. This nerf prevents Fortnite players from combining Wings of Icarus with Flowberries to gain an additional boost. While some players have already complained about this, the truth is that the item is more balanced than before.
On the positive side, Epic Games made no changes to flying, which is the main purpose of this item. Furthermore, Wings of Icarus still grants fall damage immunity, a secret feature that was recently discovered by the community. The primary purpose of the nerf was to reduce the effectiveness of other items affecting the wings, including Shockwave Grenades, Launch Pads, and Flowberries.
To sum it up, these are the latest Fortnite changes that affect Wings of Icarus:
- Disabled low gravity effect when holding the wings
- Increased leap duration from 0.1 to 0.34
The next Fortnite update is v29.10 and will likely come out on Tuesday, March 26. Considering how active Epic has been with balance changes, we expect a few more with the next patch as well.
