England bounced back from shock defeat to Greece to score The Nations League got back on track with a 3-1 victory over Finland.
Following Wednesday evening's Experimental Team selection, Lee Carsley went back to basics in search of a much-needed victory in Helsinki.
Trent Alexander-Arnold started in an unfamiliar left-back role, but otherwise it was a much more conventional formation, with Cole Palmer replacing the injured. Bukayo Saka on the right wing.
After a quiet start, England came alive in the 18th minute when Jack Grealish combined brilliantly with Angel Gomes to secure a nice finish.
The match seemed to be drawing to a close before Alexander-Arnold created the best moment of the game with a brilliant free-kick to double the lead with 16 minutes remaining.
England had more to make up and added a third goal six minutes from time through Declan Rice, but a clean sheet was denied by Dean Henderson, who was beaten by Arttu Hoskonen's header.
Dean Henderson -6
After him, he handed over only his second senior cap to Jordan Pickford, a forgettable night Greece the Crystal Palace No. 1 was well equipped but was never tested as a result of Finland's wayward ending. He had no chance after Arttu Hoskonen's free header.
Kyle Walker – 5
The Manchester City defender was largely unfazed by Finland's attack, but he didn't show much, if any, of his trademark qualities as he moved into opposition territory.
John Stone – 6
Like his City team-mate Walker, Stones was far from his best and largely floated throughout the match.
Marek Guehi – 5
Another few defensive errors for Crystal Palace's centre-back as he looks to repeat the form he showed in the summer when he was arguably England's best defender at the Euros.
Trent Alexander-Arnold – 7
Another new set of responsibilities for England's Mr Versatile, who, unsurprisingly, found it difficult to cope with the left-back role, for which he was arguably even less suited than the midfielder role he was given in the summer. That said, there are few better players in world football who can play in deadlock situations and just for that you need to find a place for him in your team.
Angel Gomes – 7
Another evening boosting the reputation of the new boy on the English senior scene. He showed the only real moment of invention on an otherwise disappointing evening for the Three Lions, providing a superb assist for Jack Grealish's goal.
Declan's Rice – 6
Stable but unspectacular from the Arsenal star, who did his best to get forward and support the attack but rarely looked like a goal threat until he showed up late in the game with his last touch before being awarded changed.
Cole Palmer – 6
It seems that replacing Bukayo Saka is not that easy. An injury to the Arsenal winger gave Palmer the chance to play on the right wing, but his performance in a Three Lions shirt was probably his least effective to date.
Judah Bellingham – 6
Apart from a few neat touches, it was a subdued performance from the Real Madrid superstar, who struggled to connect with the likes of Palmer, Jack Grealish and Harry Kane.
Jack Grealish – 7
Making his permanent return to the international squad and getting on the scoresheet once again, Grealish capped off an effective performance with a good opening strike from England that calmed a few beginning nerves.
Harry Kane – 5
Another quiet night for the captain, who was forced to leave the pitch in the first half to get into the game.
