Eight Indian players to tour Australia for Test series for the first time

The Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 will begin on November 22, 2024 in Australia.

After concluding the three-match Test series against New Zealand at home, the Indian cricket team will travel to Australia to participate in the high-voltage Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 tournament.

The much-awaited Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 will be played from November 22, 2024 to January 7, 2025. Australia and India will meet in a five-match series for the first time since the 1991-92 series.

The Indian cricket team has won the previous two Test series on Australian shores (2018-19 and 2020-21). The Asian giants will look to achieve a hat-trick of series wins Down Under on their next tour.

On October 25, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced India's 18-member squad for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. Rohit Sharma will lead the team and Jasprit Bumrah has been named vice-captain.

The Indian team consists of many young and new faces who will be traveling to Australia for the first time for a Test series.

8 Indian cricketers who will tour Australia for the first time for a Test series:

1. Yashavi Jaiswal

Youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal made his Test debut against the West Indies in 2023. Since then, the left-handed batsman has had exceptional touch in the longest format.

Jaiswal has already scored more than 1000 runs in 2024 in Test cricket and is India's most tested batsman at the moment. The left-hander is also India's highest-rated Test batsman in the latest ICC Test batting rankings.

Jaiswal will be taking a Test tour to Australia for the first time in his career.

2. Abhimanyu Iswaran

Following a series of great results in the last few months in domestic cricket, Abhimanyu Easwaran has been named in the squad for the Australian tour. He has scored five centuries in his last six First Class (FC) matches.

The 29-year-old has a sublime record in FC cricket: 7,638 runs in 99 matches at an impressive average of 49.92, with 27 hundreds and 29 half-centuries.

3. Sarfaraz Khan

Indian middle-order batsman Sarfraz Khan will tour Australia for the first time in his Test career. Khan made his Test debut earlier this year against England after performing brilliantly on the domestic circuit in recent years.

Sarfaraz has been exceptional in his short Test career so far. The 27-year-old has so far smashed one century and three half-centuries in four Tests.

4. Dhruv Gurel

Wicket-keeper batsman Dhruv Gurriel made his Test debut during England's home Test series earlier this year in the absence of Rishabh Pant and displayed all-round technique and strong temperament, both in front of and behind the stumps.

Jurel was also part of the Bangladesh-New Zealand Test series at home, but was on the bench when Pant returned. He was selected in the Indian team for the Australian tour as the second goalkeeper.

This will be Jurel's first Australian tour with the Test team.

5. Akash Deb

Indian cricket team pacer Akash Deb makes his Test debut against England in Ranchi in 2024. He has been hugely impressive in his four Test matches so far, even replacing Mohammed Siraj as second seamer in the Pune Test against New Zealand.

The 27-year-old will tour Australia for the first time with the Indian Test team.

With Mohammed Shami unavailable for the Australia Test series, Akash Deb is expected to play a crucial role alongside Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj in the pace department.

6. Harshit Rana

Delhi Speedway driver Harshit Rana has earned his first Test call-up for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.

Rana's impressive performance for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 with the ball helped him earn a call-up to the India T20I team for Zimbabwe and Bangladesh T20Is, but he did not get a chance to play.

Talking about his first-class record, Rana has taken 36 wickets in just nine matches with a good bowling average of 24.75.

7. Nitish Kumar Reddy

Rising all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy had a fantastic season in IPL 2024 with the bat while playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad. The talented cricketer has scored 303 runs in 15 matches.

He participated in the T20Is against Bangladesh. In three T20Is, the all-rounder scored 90 runs, including a half-century, and also made scratches with the ball.

After performing well in the Bangladesh T20I series, Reddy earned his first Test call-up for the upcoming Australian tour.

8. Prasidh Krishna

Indian pacer Prasidh Krishna made his Test debut against South Africa at Centurion in 2023. However, due to injuries, Krishna missed many matches this year.

Krishna has played two Tests and taken two wickets so far. The 28-year-old has been selected for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. This will be Krishna's first Test tour in Australia.
