Acland's Family Farewell
Raised in poverty – thanks to a miserly father who enjoyed a string of mistresses – he became one of our favorite actors, appearing in 130 films, while being devoted to seven children, 35 grandchildren and his wife Rosemary. 23 great-grandchildren.
But now, almost a year after Jos Ackland died aged 95, his family are saying goodbye to the old rectory in Devon, where Rosemary, who died in 2002, also found sanctuary after the death of their son Paul.
Tucked away in a 4,600-acre Clovelly estate, the eight-bedroom house is listed for £1.4million – something that would have been unthinkable for baby Jose, who moved from a rented basement to the next flat.
