The 33-year-old sexologist took to Instagram on Monday to share the devastating news with her 192,000 followers in a heartfelt tribute.

Chantelle, who was dating Paralympian Dylan Alcott, has confirmed that her mother Veronica has sadly passed away on Friday after a personal battle with leukaemia.

He shared a gallery of precious photos of himself and his mother and wrote some emotional words in a lengthy caption.

Chantal described Veronica as a 'force of nature' and praised her for her 'unwavering strength' as ​​she reflected on her life.

He described his mother's death as 'unexpected' and said his family were all coming together to support each other during this difficult time.

“I don't usually share my personal life here, but today is different,” his tribute began.

'It was sudden, unexpected, and too soon for one who had so much light to give.

'My mother was a force of nature in a very gentle way. Her beauty was not only in her presence, but in the way she adorned everything and everyone around her with love, compassion and unwavering strength.

'She had a quiet elegance, a warmth that warmed everyone she met, and a wisdom that guided us all.

'To know her is to know pure, selfless and abiding love. She was a great mother to us and a safe, welcoming place for many.

'For the past few months, he's been battling leukemia and for the past four weeks, he's been battling complications in the ICU. She struggled with the quiet resilience that defined her, but ultimately, her body couldn't heal.

“She didn't want to go so soon and we are still trying to understand the depth of this loss.

But in true Otten fashion, we lean on each other and try to bring lightness to such a sad time. I am very lucky, very lucky to have the family and community that I have.

Chantal invited those who knew Veronica to join her and her family on October 23 to celebrate her life.

'I haven't had a chance to tell everyone close to me yet, and I hope this post helps take that weight off as I move on to the next steps of planning, surviving and rebuilding.
