Duchess Sophie confuses fans with matching outfits

The Duchess of Edinburgh was spotted with her husband in a serious occasion on Wednesday as the couple stepped out on the third day of their royal tour of Malta.

Duchess Sophie, 59, wore a beautiful full-length floaty white skirt covered in poppies during a tour of Villa Gardamangia in Peeta. The floral number was cinched at the waist with a neutral raffia belt and styled with a white V-neck blouse.

To accessorize her look, Prince Edward carried his wife's raffia clutch and wedges on her heels and a delicate pendant necklace.

It was a special occasion for Edinburghers to join representatives from Heritage Malta to learn more about the ongoing restoration work at the newlywed home of Edward's late parents, Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip.

While Sophie's look was classically elegant, it was somewhat skewed for royal fans as it was similar to the look she wore the day before.

On Tuesday, Prince William was seen laying a wreath at the entrance to the Grand Harbor in Valletta as Prince William opened a new memorial to honor submariners who lost their lives in World War II.

For the sombre occasion, Sophie opted for a silky white shirt with a white skirt with orange blossoms – a similar ensemble to Wednesday's look.

Thrifty in her packing style, the mother-of-two re-dressed her white and raffia heeled wedges with a Penelope silvers and pink pendant necklace, but made room for a vibrant orange Sophie Habsburg bag in 'Lola' style.

Sophie has made the flowers the centerpiece of a trip to Malta that aims to mark the country's 60th anniversary of independence and celebrate the current partnership with the UK.

On Monday, the royal couple began their tour by meeting the President of the Republic of Malta Miriam Spiteri Debono and her husband Anthony Spiteri Debono at the Grandmaster's Palace.

Once again, the king's sister-in-law wore florals, this time opting for a puff sleeve number from Gabriela Hearst teamed with pearl embellished Jimmy Choos.

Before heading to Malta, the Duchess was photographed for a different kind of royal engagement. On Thursday, she will make a special screen appearance on CBeebies Bedtime Story to mark World Sight Day.
