Some Dragon’s Dogma 2 players have recently been complaining that almost all the best gear in the game is only available in shops, and not found in the wild. While the exploration in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is often praised as one of its best qualities, these gamers are concerned that this detail is detrimental to their experience.
Released last month, Dragon’s Dogma 2 has been a huge hit. The sequel to the 2012 action RPG has been one of the hottest topics in most gaming spaces in the last few weeks, and all this attention led Dragon’s Dogma 2 to sell over 2.5 million units.
Dragon’s Dogma 2: Infinite Gold & Item Duplication Glitch
The Rift is an unexpected source of riches in Dragon’s Dogma 2. Here’s how to abuse it and gain infinite money and items.
Now, some Dragon’s Dogma 2 players have criticized how the game distributes loot. According to a Reddit post made by Dev_Grendel, which received over 1,200 upvotes, essentially all the best equipment in Dragon’s Dogma 2 are shop items, except for the Dragon Weapons. Dev_Grendel also claimed that the problem is noticeable even in the early game, as most of the loot found via exploration is consistently worse than that offered in shops. In the post’s comments, most gamers seem to agree, with some claiming that the situation is even worse with armor, as most armor pieces have linear upgrades instead of being found in the game’s open world.
To solve the problem, Dev_Grendel made a Dragon’s Dogma 2 mod that changes the location of the loot. Named “Wild Loot,” this mod swaps the values between different weapons, making the ones that can only be found by exploring more powerful. Also, it removes all items that can be found in the wild from shops, making them more exclusive. However, it’s a work in progress, and it does not affect armor pieces yet.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 Has Been Highly Successful and Extremely Controversial
This is far from the only controversy regarding Dragon’s Dogma 2, though. Soon after its release, Dragon’s Dogma 2 was review-bombed on Steam. At the time, most detractors complained about the game’s performance on PC and that it introduced microtransactions for gameplay elements, such as Fast Travel. Many fans argued that everything that was sold via microtransactions could be acquired by playing the game, but the controversy remained, and DD2 currently has only 58% positive reviews on Steam.
While there is plenty of criticism for Capcom’s new RPG, the game’s reception is more positive than negative. Dragon’s Dogma 2 is still among the highest-rated 2024 games so far, with a score of 88 on Metacritic.
