This past weekend, Disney held its D23 fan event. It is a major event where The Walt Disney Company reveals its upcoming slate of projects and attractions; everything from new theme park rides to the latest wave of Marvel movies. During the Disney Lorcana D23 event, they announced their plans for the next two years of their card game.
The Disney Lorcana D23 Event Announcements
Every announcement at the Disney Lorcana D23 live event has been collected into a single post on the D23 website.Senior Brand Manager and Disney Lorcana Co-Designer Ryan Miller opened the event remarking on the game’s launch, referring to it as “a roller-coaster on a rodeo.”
Miller continued the event citing several notable metrics for Disney Lorcana. To date, more than 1 billion cards have been sold, that is 131,000 cards sold every hour. The Disney Lorcana companion app has been downloaded over 400,000 times, and more than 76,000 organized play events have been held worldwide.
The Disney Lorcana D23 event also delves into the game’s creative process. This included behind-the-scenes material showcasing the creation of a single Disney Lorcana card.
Last but not least, several new events and cards were announced for Disney Lorcana. Four major regional events are scheduled for the remainder of 2024 in Las Vegas, Nevada, Toronto, Canada, Birmingham, England, and Seattle Washington. Several new Disney Lorcana championships have also been announced:
- In December, a European Disney Lorcana Championship will be held at the Disneyland Paris Resort.
- In January, a North American Championship will be held at Disneyland Resort
- In 2025, a World Championship will be held at Disney World, with the grand prize being a one-of-a-kind golden card featuring Mickey Mouse as the Brave Little Tailor.
Later this year, players can enjoy cards based on Oswald The Lucky Rabbit and Chip ‘N Dale Rescue Rangers. As for dark fantasy fans, cards based on The Black Cauldron will arrive in 2025.
Lastly, 2026 will see the release of an official Pocahontas card, and a set of cards based on the stories, characters, and songs by Pixar.
The Disney Lorcana D23 event coincides with the launch of Shimmering Skies, the fifth set for Disney Lorcana.
