THQ Nordic has announced it’s bringing back classic Wii platformer Epic Mickey in an enhanced remake entitled Disney Epic Mickey Rebrushed.

The game was revealed as part of the latest Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase, and will see the 2010 original given a 14 year lick of paint – which is rather apt, considering the story. However, it’s since been confirmed that the game will also launch on Xbox, PlayStation and PC too.

The plot sees everyone’s favourite cartoon mouse messing around with some magic paint, which inadvertently has the side effect of causing chaos on a world of forgotten characters and concepts.

It’s up to Mickey and the player to head into these worlds, and use the magical paintbrush and paint, along with their platforming skills to clean up Mickey’s mess and fix the world – though a malevolent, somewhat inky force is trying to stop him.

The remake is being handled by Purple Lamp – the game development studio responsible for the recent SpongeBob Squarepants games including Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated and The Cosmic Shake.

As a bonus factoid – the original game was directed by none other than Warren Spector – who was the designer best known for creating the Deus Ex franchise.

There’s no specific release date for Epic Mickey Rebrushed just yet, with the game expected to arrive at some point in 2024. We’ll update when we hear more. In the meantime, our original Epic Mickey review lets you know what we thought back in 2010.
