During The Game Awards, Arkane Lyon and Marvel Games announced Marvel’s Blade, but you may want to read on before you get too excited.
Bethesda mentioned on X (formerly Twitter) that they’re thrilled to have made the announcement to celebrate Blade‘s 50th anniversary, but development on the game “has just begun.”
It’s likely another situation akin to Machine Games’ Indiana Jones title or Insomniac Games’ Marvel’s Wolverine, with the announcement made with a small tease and then a long wait before the game actually comes out, likely with little or no information for months or years.
If you’re unfamiliar with Arkane Lyon, it’s the developer behind acclaimed titles like Dishonored, Dishonored 2, and Deathloop.
All we know about the game for now is that it’s going to be a mature, single-player, third-person action-adventure game. We also know that it’s set in Paris, which has apparently been invaded by vampires, with citizens having to shelter in place as soon as the sun goes down.
At the moment, we have no idea about when it’ll actually be released (besides the fact that it’ll likely take a long time) or whether it’ll be an Xbox exclusive or multiplatform. Nothing on either issue has been announced during the presentation at The Game Awards or since.
We didn’t even get a year and we’ll have to wait for when Arkane, Bethesda, and Microsoft are prepared to make a further announcement at some point in the future.
I suppose if you want some (turn-based) Blade action, you’ll have to play as the Daywalker in Marvel’s Midnight Sun for quite a while. The silver lining is that it’s a great game.
Incidentally, if you’d like to read more about The Game Awards, you can check out how developers who won awards (those few who were allowed to receive them on stage at all) were rushed during their acceptance speeches by a teleprompter telling them to “wrap it up” after a mere 30 seconds.
