Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro called out Donald Trump’s running mate JD Vance as a “total phony baloney” and the “most inorganic candidate” he has ever seen.
Shapiro was at Cheyney University, a historically black campus, when he responded to a reporter’s question about remarks Vance made on the “Full Send Podcast.”
“He talks like Barack Obama,” the Ohio senator and fake hillbilly said when asked about Shapiro. “It’s like if I try to do a really bad impression of Barack Obama.”
Shapiro had some thoughts to share with the assembled press and supporters.
“Barack Obama is probably our most gifted orator, of my time, so it’s kind of a weird insult,” said a laughing Shapiro. He added, “I’ll say this about J.D. Vance: It is real hard being honest with the American people when you’re not being honest with yourself. J.D. Vance is a total phony baloney. He is the most inorganic candidate I think I have ever seen on the national stage.”
Shapiro is reportedly on Vice President Kamala Harris’ short list of potential running mates, and the presumptive Democratic nominee is expected to announce her decision in the coming days. Today’s press conference might be a preview of what the next few months could look like if Shapiro is tapped.
“This guy is not exactly off to a good start, and it is clear that Donald Trump really has buyer’s remorse with his pick,” Shapiro continued. “So if he wants to sling insults in my direction, which I’m not even sure is an insult, let him do it. That’s fine. Bring it on. I’ll be ready for whatever the hell JD Vance throws my direction.”
