Lords of the Fallen has been a success for publisher CI Games, selling one million copies with the expectation of generating $100 million in revenue over the next few years. Developer Hexworks is already working on a new project, codenamed Project 3, which is also a triple-A action RPG. However, a recent trademark blatantly hints at some connection to Lords of the Fallen.
As discovered by Kurakasis on Twitter, CI Games trademarked Death of the Fallen on January 3rd. Whether it’s a spin-off or a new game in the same universe, the publisher’s Q3 2023 results webinar from November 2023 said Project 3 would “capitalize on the recognition and success achieved by Lords of the Fallen.”
It’s also “built around more ambitious gameplay options for wider audience appeal” and promises to benefit from “the substantial learnings, experience and knowledge” accumulated when developing the 2023 Souls-like. If that weren’t enough, Project 3 uses Unreal Engine 5, just like Lords of the Fallen.
Interestingly, it’s targeting a release in 2026, while Project 3 was previously mentioned as launching in early 2024 for Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC. Time will tell if they’re the same, but a sequel wouldn’t be out of left field.
