Cyberpunk 2077’s Update 2.0 appears to have gone down well with the community, as it transpires its Steam player count has almost tripled just hours after the launch of the new patch.

Just a week away from the release of the game’s expansion (check out our Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty review here) data from the website SteamCharts reveals the huge Update 2.0 saw the game’s player count jump from around 26,000 players to more than 90,000 on Steam alone by three hours after the Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.0 patch notes had dropped. As it rested overnight and folks went to bed, at the time of writing it’s still hovering very respectable 66-67,000 players who headed back to Night City to check out all the new changes and features. It’s additionally impressive when you consider that the new update means PC players now need an SSD to play, thanks to the new Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty system requirements.

Of course, this data only accounts for the game’s playerbase on Steam – the game and update is also available on other PC storefronts like GoG and it’s also on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5, so it’s difficult to get a consistent number across all these platforms. Still, it’s an excellent sign that the changes have gone down well with the Cyberpunk 2077 community and marks the latest chapter in the game’s two year turnaround. When the original game launched back in 2020, while it was initially praised, the game suffered on previous-gen consoles which netted a huge backlash from fans and even at one point caused the game to be pulled from sale for a brief period on those systems and CD Projekt Red had to issue an apology and offer refunds.

Next week will undoubtedly see the game get even more interest as the Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty expansion launches and brings with it a whole new chapter of story into the RPG.
