Cowboys' Jerry Jones reaches out to radio hosts with questions about roster construction after game loss

Dallas Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones opened Tuesday morning with his usual radio spot, but he was upset by the criticism after the team's slow start.

On his 82nd birthday, Jones forced the Cowboys into their worst home defeat since 1988. The Detroit Lions scored 47 points and Dallas only scored nine.

Jones was asked on “Sean & RJ.” Fan Audacity 105.3 Why players who missed out in losses to the Lions and New Orleans Saints are “still a good fit for your team.” In response, Jones defended his players and noted the number of injuries the team has dealt with in recent weeks. He said the party had not taken sufficient steps and “we suffered the consequences.”

Jones said he didn't want to hear about signing players in the offseason.

“Don't tell me, 'I should have hired a guy in the offseason.' It's not a damn argument just because… I'm dealing with what we're dealing with San Francisco Not what I did wrong last week, last month, or two months ago, or two years ago.

“If I really gave you a list of all the mistakes I've made over the last few years, you could stick with this program for the next five years and forget about it. You'll add it up in the end, and it's better to be right than wrong. Gives good space.

“But if you think about it for a moment now… there is a Super Bowl champion. What did others do wrong? There's a Super Bowl champion, and we want to be that champion, and I'm sure I won't throw in the towel today because of what's going to happen on Sunday, but I'm not going to waste a lot of energy and time sitting here and saying, ' Let's talk about what I should have done in 1907 or 2017.” I don't have time on this great show to reflect on the decisions I've made.

As the radio hosts pressed further, Jones became more serious and threatened to replace the hosts.

“It's none of your business,” Jones said. “It's not your job to let me go through all the reasons why I did something and say, 'I'm sorry I did that.' It's not your job (do your job) or I would be asking this question… I'm not kidding.

“You don't understand what the team is doing right or wrong. If there are five or 10 people like you, you must come to this meeting. I'm coming here today with 32 teams – you guys are geniuses… You all really mean it. Sit here with a microphone and tell me what mistakes I made, without exaggerating.

Jones admitted he was “disgusted” by Sunday's results. He tried to prove his point by saying that one of his “stupid” decisions was buying the team – but it turned out to be the right one.

“One of the stupidest things I ever did was buy a cowboy,” he said. “He was an idiot who did it. So stupid things can turn out to be good decisions. Wise things can turn out to be bad decisions. The fact is that when you make decisions, you don't really know if it's going to be good or not.”
