Chivalry 2 developer Torn Banner has announced that the game’s latest update marks a point at which the game is “content and feature complete”, meaning it will receive no more meaningful updates.
In a post on Steam, Torn Banner says it feels like the three years of support it’s given Chivalry 2, which has included numerous updates, content drops, and quality-of-life improvements, means the studio has “more than accomplished [its] goal”, which was to double the size of Chivalry 2 over the course of its lifespan.
Since Chivalry 2 launched, updates have increased the number of Team Objective maps from five to thirteen, introduced mounted combat to the game, and added tons of new equipment, plus lots more. The game’s Regicide update, which launched in May, marks the end of Chivalry 2‘s story and of regular content drops as well.
Although Chivalry 2 might be feature complete now, that doesn’t mean the franchise is ending, as Torn Banner is quick to remind fans in the Steam post.
Right now, the team is hard at work on another multiplayer-focused game in the Chivalry franchise, as well as the upcoming co-op action-horror sequel No More Room in Hell 2. Torn Banner says it’s been building its team “in number and skillset” in order to “blow players away” when the next Chivalry game is released.
Additionally, Chivalry 2 might not be getting any more content, but it will still be updated with maintenance fixes as and when they become necessary. Both official and unofficial servers will remain active, as will matchmaking, so you won’t need to worry about your weekly Chivalry 2 raids ending.
Chivalry 2 itself isn’t going anywhere either. You can still grab the game right now on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. Perhaps unusually, it’s not free-to-play, but it is available via Game Pass, so if you’re a subscriber, you can check it out at no additional cost.
