Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker has endorsed Josh Hawley in his bid for re-election as senator, praising the former Missouri attorney general for being a “family man” and “godly” man.

Butker and Hawley appeared together on “The Ingraham Angle” on Thursday, and the NFL star said that since he had a bye week, he wanted to hit the campaign trail.

“We decided to stay in Kansas City and I thought, who else would I want to go on the campaign trail with than Senator Josh Hawley, who we've spent the last few years together building this relationship with, and he's a family man, he's a God-fearing man, and there's no other person , who I would like to support, would be the first candidate I support,” Butker said.

Hawley, who is opposed to Democratic candidate Lucas Kence, said it was an “honor” to have Butker's endorsement and to be able to accompany him on the Chiefs campaign.

“He's a guy who's not afraid to tell the truth, who's not afraid to say that we have to stand on the principles that this country was built on. And when the left went after him in such a crazy, crazy way, last spring he didn't budge even an inch. And we need more of that in the United States,” Hawley told The Ingraham Angle.

Butker came under fire earlier this year over remarks he made early in his career about women and their careers at Benedictine College.

He praised the graduates for their achievements, but said they were told “devil's lies” and should become “housewives.”

“Some of you may have a global career, but I would venture to guess that most of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world. “I can tell you that my beautiful wife Isabelle would be the first to say that her life truly began when she began to pursue her calling as a wife and mother,” Butker said at the time.

He told Fox News host Laura Ingraham that he was “saddened” that some people took his words in a “poor way.”

“I tried to talk about the lives of so many women who devoted their lives to being a homemaker and raising children. It's a beautiful role, but it shouldn't be downplayed,” he explained.

“There is nothing shameful if you are a woman and you want to spend time with your family and raise children, so this is not a slight against anyone who may want to get a great education and have a career, but it is more about how beautiful it is for women when they simply they step aside and prioritize family, spending time with their children and raising their family. And that's what I wanted to talk about about love.”

Ingraham switched gears and asked the Chiefs kicker if he would support former President Trump in November, but Butker said he would only support the presidential candidate who was “most pro-life.”

“Is there any ambiguity about supporting Trump?” Ingraham pressed on.

“I think you should vote for whoever is the most pro-life president,” Butker replied. “We have to be prayerful people, putting God first, and I think that's what's best for our country.”
