Call of Duty Black Ops 6 Could Bring Back Classic Feature

Highlights

  • The classic prestige system may return in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, allowing players to reset unlocks and challenges for a prestige emblem.
  • Recent Call of Duty games have moved away from the prestige system in favor of a battle pass, but leaks suggest a return to the classic system.
  • The potential return of the prestige system is exciting for both veteran players and newcomers, especially with the game set to launch on Xbox Game Pass.

According to a new leak, the fan-favorite prestige system could be returning to Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. The prestige system is a classic Call of Duty feature appearing all the way back in 2007’s Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Once a player achieves the highest rank in multiplayer, they can opt to reset unlocks, ranks, and challenges for a prestige emblem. The player would then start the process over and once they hit rank 55, they could prestige again. Now, that feature is looking to return in Call of Duty:Black Ops 6, according to recent leaks.

Despite the feature’s popularity, its appearance in the franchise has been inconsistent since 2019’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Instead of reaching the highest rank in multiplayer and then resetting to continue the process, more recent games have opted for a battle pass system. With this, players’ multiplayer progression would be done via seasonal progression. Instead of 55 being the max rank a player could achieve, players could level all the way to 1,000 depending on the game.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Makes Cold War The Odd Game Out

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is looming on the horizon, but because of its existence, Black Ops Cold War kind of sticks out like a sore thumb.

But according to leaker BobNetworkUK on Twitter, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will see the return of the classic prestige system. BobNetworkUK has been reporting on various other changes coming to Black Ops 6 as well, including omni-directional movement. In the games since 2019’s Modern Warfare, the system, when it appears, works differently than the older games. Rather than the classic system, players would just level continuously. Then, every 50 levels, the player would prestige. Every season, players can prestige four times, with level 200 being considered “prestige master.” This is how the system has worked from Black Ops Cold War onward.

Black Ops 6 Rumored to See Return of Prestige System

According to BobNetworkUk, the prestige system in Black Ops 6 will be the classic system, not the system introduced in Black Ops Cold War. What this means for the battle pass system that has been in Call of Duty since 2019 has yet to be seen. Not much is known about Black Ops 6 as a whole. Whether this means the prestige ranking will be separate from the battle pass ranking, if the two will both be tweaked to work in tandem, or if the battle pass ranking is gone entirely is unknown. There isn’t enough information to go off of yet. Most of the information on the game comes from rumors and leaks, some even suggesting Black Ops 6 might be released on previous generation systems.

Although yet to be confirmed, the potential return of the classic prestige system is sure to excite veteran players and newer fans alike. Microsoft recently announced that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will be available on Xbox Game Pass. This marks the first time a Call of Duty game will be released on the service. This, coupled with the classic prestige system possibly returning, is the perfect combination to entice players to return to the franchise. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has yet to receive an official release date, but more information on the game is expected to be revealed at the Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Direct on June 9.
