Lara Gut-Behrami did not start. The woman from canton Ticino felt unwell and decided to give up after the game. She wasn't 100 percent healthy yet and the risk of injury was too great. Last season's World Cup winner, who has been hampered by flu and knee problems during her recent preparations, tearfully explained that she didn't want the injury to end her career.

For Gut-Behrami, who was unable to train three weeks before the start of the World Cup, the season will begin with the second giant slalom race of the winter in Killington on November 30. In the past two weeks, the women's competitors have performed two slaloms in Levy and one slalom in Gurgar. The speed opener will be held at Beaver Creek in early December. (HKL/SDA)
