Though Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader had an early access period, it launched on December 6 for PC, and Owlcat’s latest title has been picking up steam ever since. Rogue Trader is currently in fifth place on the Top Sellers list on Steam, only behind Baldur’s Gate 3 as a full-price title ($49.99). The factors for its success are arguably threefold: the high acclaim of Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous turned Owlcat into a household name among CRPG fans, the trendsetting popularity of Baldur’s Gate 3 shone a light on the genre as whole, and perhaps the most important factor of all – it seems that Rogue Trader is just a good game in its own right.
Whereas Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous allowed players to pick between turn-based and real-time, the gameplay in Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader is strictly turn-based. Set in the Koronus Expanse, the latest Owlcat release places players in the role of a Rogue Trader, a kind of merchant prince and conquistador sanctioned by the Imperium of Man to explore the uncharted regions of the galaxy.
