Remnant 2 is a great Soulslike game, much to the delight of Remnant: From the Ashes fans. And, much like the first game, there’s an overwhelming number of guns, gear, amulets, rings, and more to obtain. And, one specific hidden Archetype (this game has a fair number of hidden Archetypes) requires players to get a lot of a certain Material called ‘Blood Moon Essence’ in the world called Yaesha.
Remnant 2: Best Leg Armor, Ranked
There are many different leg pieces players can choose from in Remnant 2, but some are just unquestionably better than others.
Trying to intentionally farm these to obtain the necessary items from the Bloodmoon Altar in Remnant 2 can be a bit difficult, especially if players aren’t aware of how this in-game event works, so let’s go over the best methods.
Updated December 7th, 2023 by Jacob Buchalter: With the influx of new Remnant players coming in thanks to the game (and its prequel Remnant: From the Ashes) being added to Xbox Game Pass, it seemed like a good time to go over one of the earlier roadblocks a lot of players bump into in the game. Blood Moon Essence may seem like these hyper-rare resources that players have to get ‘lucky’ to stumble upon once in a blue (or red) moon, but it’s relatively easy to control the spawn of this event to a certain degree. So, let’s go over every single detail involving the Blood Moon in Remnant 2, how to farm Blood Moon Essence, and what to spend this Essence on.
The Blood Moon Event & How It Works
A Random Event That Tries Its Best To Appear Often
First of all, for those who aren’t quite sure what this ‘Blood Moon Event’ is referring to:
The Blood Moon is a random event in the Yaesha world (like the Endaira’s End event) where players load into a zone, usually the Far Woods or the Faithless Thicket, and notice that the entire color palette of the zone has been tinged a bit red due to the bright red moon in the sky.
Essentially, if players look up into the sky during this Event (whenever there’s actual space to see it between the trees), they’ll notice that the moon is also glowing pinkish-red, hence the name ‘Blood Moon’.
During a Blood Moon, players can run through the entire map it’s active in (and it can appear in many of Yaesha’s maps) and find these small purple glowing enemies called Root Wisps flying around that aren’t typically seen anywhere in Yaesha. Destroy these, and they’ll obtain 1x Blood Moon Essence for doing so. Then, they can take this Essence to the Bloodmoon Altar (if it spawned in their roll of Yaesha, which it almost always does), and use it to purchase all sorts of items, as listed below.
Farming Blood Moon Essence
A Lot Of Running Back & Forth, As It Turns Out
Now there’s really only one way players in different communities have found to ‘farm’ Blood Moon Essence in Remnant 2. It involves making it to the end of Yaesha’s mainline quest (AKA either the Ravager or the Corruptor), as well as getting a specific result from a specific World Boss in that player’s randomly generated version of Yaesha.
There have been many ‘theories’ of what impacts Blood Moons showing up, but the only developer-confirmed method is just waiting and checking back every now and again (preferably putting about an hour in between checking, given the event’s innate timer).
Killing the Doe, slaying random deer and birds around Yaesha, or wearing any sort of specific gear has no currently confirmed impact on the appearance of Blood Moons.
The Blood Moon event is purely an RNG-based thing, with the only real ‘tactic’ being to make sure and warp out of the zone completely to ‘refresh’ the Yaesha zone and give the Blood Moon event space to spawn, or even go back to Ward 13 before warping back in, as this allows the Blood Moon to actually trigger if it was already queued up to do so.
Because this event seems to have some sort of internal ‘timer’ before it can pop up again, it’s usually best to just go experience some other area of Remnant 2 for a while and then check back in later, as most times if a Blood Moon ‘can’ spawn, it will.
How To Actually Farm Essence Once The Blood Moon Spawns
It’s A Bit Of An Involved Process, So Buckle Up
Once the Blood Moon actually appears, make sure not to panic. Yes, these are technically ‘timed’ events, but if done properly there is technically an infinite amount of time to farm most (if not all) of the Blood Moon Essences players need to buy out the Bloodmoon Altar completely. There are 3 simple steps to keep in mind for farming Essence once a Blood Moon is active:
- Don’t touch any Worldstone or smaller Worldstone checkpoints while farming, as doing so almost always gets rid of the Blood Moon.
- Try and find Root Wisps near a Gate leading to another Zone, if possible, to make the route faster.
- Kill the Wisps near this Gate, go through the Gate to any other Zone, turn around again, and immediately head back into the Zone with the Blood Moon, rinse and repeat.
All-in-all, once it actually spawns farming a Blood Moon for tons of Essence is actually easy. The hard part is getting the Event to show up in the first place. Also, just to make sure players have all the info they’ll need, this can work in multiplayer/co-op as well, so it’s worth having a friend hop on and join if the host happens upon a Blood Moon. And, just so players know exactly how much farming they’ll need to do outside of the 15 needed for the absurdly strong Summoner Archetype, here are the costs for everything found in the Bloodmoon Altar:
