Snipers have consistently been one of the most powerful (and contentious) weapons in Activision’s CoD franchise—and it’s about to become even stronger in Black Ops 6. Treyarch devs have revealed that the long-range, high-powered rifle will get a buff in the upcoming series entry, with all snipers being one shot from the torso up. This means quick-scoping will be a massive part of the meta at launch, much to the chagrin of assault rifle and SMG players.
However, Matt Scronce, associate design director, and Yale Miller, senior director of production at Treyarch, noted in their VentureBeat interview that each sniper will have different elements that’ll make some stronger. “Obviously, you’ll have different characteristics as far as slow fire, fast fire, recoil,” Scronce said. There’s also the myriad attachments you’ll need to take into account, which, as always, will play a huge role in how effective your weapon will be.
Unsurprisingly, player reaction to the news has been largely positive, with most hardcore fans celebrating the impending return of quick-scoping. Others, on the other hand, are already expecting it to be nerfed because of the inevitably coming complaints. Some are also hoping that Treyarch nerfs the game’s aim assist since it plays a huge part in a sniper’s target acquisition.
But since the Black Ops 6 release date remains a few months away, only time will tell how prominent the sniper will be in the opening meta. While you wait for it to drop, check out our pages on the Black Ops 6 pre-order bonuses and the Black Ops 6 maps list. This way, you can find out more about the game ahead of time. Alternatively, you can read about Treyarch’s re-introduction of a round-based Zombies mode in Black Ops 6 instead. After all, it is arguably the most anticipated part of the next series entry.
