Black Myth Wukong has taken the gaming world by storm, with it surpassing all expectations that anyone had. Souls-like games are incredibly popular, especially those created by the genre’s creator FromSoftware, including Dark Souls, Elden Ring, and Bloodborne, Game Science’s first foray into this game style has blown past these titles when it comes to setting various records.

Game Science took to X to announce that Black Myth Wukong has reached 10 million sales across all platforms since its release on August 20th. The game also reached over 3 million concurrent players across PC, and PS5, with over 2 million coming from Steam, which saw the game jump to the second most played game of all time, only behind PUBG.

This milestone will make it one of the best-selling games of 2024, with the likes of Helldivers 2, Palworld, and College Football 25 currently edging ahead. But, with the game being just days old at this point, there is every possibility that it could claim the top spot if the hype continues to grow over the coming weeks and months. The popularity of Black Myth Wukong can’t be overstated, with the game leading to a shortage of PS5 consoles in China as players flocked to stores to grab the system so they could jump into the new Souls-like title.

Black Myth Wukong has been a hit with players, although many have criticized the combat loop, with our own review stating that the game is “hampered by an endless boss gauntlet and repetitive combat,” while also praising the “unique additions and twists to the Souls-like genre.” This game has been an unexpected hit for the Chinese developer, and millions of eyes will be on the studio to see how the IP is expanded in the future and what they have in store with its next release. But for now, millions of players are enjoying this latest entry in the Souls-like genre, giving fans a new title to play following Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree DLC that landed earlier this year.
