Biggest Unanswered Questions from Terrifier 3

Spoilers for “Terrifier 3” follow.

It's Halloween season, which means it's time for the return of Art the Clown. A modern-day slasher icon has become a huge Halloween staple, primarily because the first two “Terrifier” films were set during Halloween. Now, here comes “Terrifier 3,” which changes things up by setting most of its horror action around Christmas (although, yes, some scenes are set during the Halloween season as well). The “Terrifier” films are known for their gruesome violence, and “Terrifier 3” is no exception. It's a movie by chicos for chicos (in a complimentary way, we swear), and those with a high appetite for art won't be disappointed. A positive review of our new film as we said:

“It will test most viewers, charm some and sicken some. No one likes what these shows sell: depictions of victims (some sympathetic and downright innocent, some delightfully oafish) turned into piles of meat. A ghostly serial killer takes disturbing pleasure in his own work as slowly and meticulously as possible, and the film has truly mind-bending, sensory-testing effects.”

“Terrifier” franchise writer and director Damien Lyon has already confirmed that there will be a “Terrifier 4,” which means “Terrifier 3” leaves some things up in the air. With that in mind, here are some unanswered questions we have about “Terrifier 3.”

What is Art the Clown's goal now?

In the first “Terrifier” movie, Art the Clown seemed like some random psycho in a clown suit, killing for fun. Maybe it was just right for the movie. But “Terrifier 2” added a supernatural element by raising art from the dead. “Terrifier 3” continues that trend: Art is resurrected and now serves a ghostly entity. This ghost was represented in “Terrifier 2” by a small pale girl who looked like a child, then inhabited the ghost's body. Art's survivor Victoria Hayes in “Terrifier 3.” But the monster is defeated by the end of “Terryfer 3,” which begs the question: What's next for Art? Will Ghost be revived for “Terrifier 4” and continue to work with Art? Or will everyone's favorite killer clown strike? If we're honest, we believe it's the latter – Art is a great character when he acts independently.

Is the artistic clown immortal?

So we have to ask: Is the artistic clown immortal at this point? Art has been killed several times now and he keeps coming back. As mentioned above, demonic powers are the reason why Art continues to survive, but the question must be asked: can he ever be stopped? Of course, most horror movie slashers are more or less immortal so filmmakers can make sequels (Freddy, and Jason and Chucky, three examples that keep recurring despite their apparent deaths) and that seems to be the current case for the “Terrifier” franchise. But you have to wonder if there is an end game in sight somewhere. Can Art the Clown Forever In fact Will it stop, or will he come back again…again? As long as audiences crave more of Art's graphic violence, it looks like he'll be killed off another day.

Is Jonathan Shaw Really Dead?

The “Terrifier” franchise is known for its intense anger and unrelenting violence. But a strange thing happens in “Terrifier 3”: a main character dies off-screen. During the film's big climactic scene, final girl Sienna Shaw (Lauren LaVera) is shown a bloody skull, leading her at first to believe it belongs to her little cousin Gabby (Antonella Rose). However, a few minutes later, a pair of glasses are placed on the skull – glasses belonging to Sienna's little brother Jonathan (Elliott Fullam). The implication is clear: the skull belongs to Jonathan. Or will…? If we're being honest here, we have to say: yes, yes it does. It's pretty obvious that writer-director Damien Lyon avoided showing Jonathan's death to pull off this twist better. But we never really do to see Jonathan dies in the movie, and one has to wonder if this is some kind of cruel trick being played on Sienna and if Jonathan is still alive.

Is Sienna Shaw Going To Hell?

During the big climactic scene of “Terrifier 3,” a literal portal to Hell opens up on the ground, swallowing Sienna's cousin Gabby in the process. Sienna tries to save the baby, but ultimately fails. It's safe to assume that at some point in “Terrifier 4,” Sienna is going to be on a mission to save Gabby. I mean, somehow, Sienna is going to go to hell. Just how It remains to be seen whether that happens, and raises all sorts of questions (how easy is it to go to hell? And then, how easy is it to escape?). Again, Damian Lyon will go in a completely different direction and trap Gabby in Hell forever. After all, this isn't the first time the franchise has done something brutal and shocking. But this is just a guess. For now, it remains to be seen where the “Terrifier” franchise goes next.
