Baldur’s Gate 3: 19 Best Ranged Weapons, Ranked

Looking to deal devastating damage at range in Baldur’s Gate 3? These are some of the game’s most powerful ranged weapons, ranked.

All Scimitars also have the ability to Flourish, which might knock an opponent off balance, and can also Lacerate to hopefully make enemies bleed. The best Scimitars in Baldur’s Gate 3 deal more damage and have unique effects that can be quite overpowered in the right circumstances.

Updated December 25, 2023 by Joe Grantham: Game of the Year winner Baldur’s Gate 3 is now out for Xbox players as well as PlayStation and PC players who got to experience the RPG first. As new players enroll in their first adventures and veterans attempt to beat the new hardest difficulty, Honor Mode, knowing all about the best Scimitars in BG3 will always be helpful.

While Scimitars don’t deal the most damage in the game, they are incredibly versatile and are a good option for duel-wielding, or even as a backup weapon for mages.

9 Sylvan Scimitar

Uncommon

Melee Caster: Instead of its Dexterity Modifier, the affected entity adds its Spellcasting Ability Modifier to Attack Rolls.

The Sylvan Scimitar is Jaheira’s weapon, and players can acquire it by looting it from her corpse, or if they manage to keep her alive and get on well with her, they can recruit her as a companion. With the Melee Caster passive, this Scimitar is great as a secondary weapon for mages who are more likely to hit by using their Spellcasting Modifier for Attack Rolls.

Beyond this, however, the damage is nothing to get excited about, and there are no additional passives or abilities. Nevertheless, it will serve players well in Act 2.

8 Speedy Reply

Nimble Attack: When the wielder hits an enemy with this weapon, they gain Momentum for 2 turns.

Although Speedy Reply simply deals the standard 1d6 Slashing damage of Scimitars with no bonus, it does allow players to gain Momentum in fights. Momentum is one of the many positive conditions in Baldur’s Gate 3 that allows characters to move further each turn.

While this might not sound like much, the best players utilize their movement extremely efficiently and small buffs like this should not be overlooked. Speedy Reply can be looted early in the game from a body on The Risen Road.

7 Adamantine Scimitar

Base Damage: 2~7

1d6 + 1 Slashing

Rare

Diamondsbane: If an adamantine weapon hits an object, the hit is always critical. Lethal Weapon: This weapon ignores Resistance to Slashing damage.

The Adamantine Scimitar, like the other Adamantine weapons, is one of the weapons in Baldur’s Gate 3 that can only be crafted, and not looted. To craft it at the Adamantine Forge, players will need some Mithral Ore and a Scimitar Mould.

While it doesn’t have the highest damage out of all the Scimitars, the fact that it ignores resistance to Slashing damage can come in incredibly useful against certain enemies.

6 Scimitar +2

Base Damage: 3~8

Baldur's Gate 3 Scimitar +2

N/A

In terms of flat Slashing damage, the Scimitar +2 is on par with the other top Scimitars in Baldur’s Gate 3, however, it doesn’t have any special effects to push it that bit further.

The Scimitar +2 can be bought from a few traders later on in the game, and without magical effects it is perfect for players who want to role-play as a non-magic user, even if it means their build is weak.

5 Salty Scimitar(rrr)

Base Damage: 3~8

1d6 + 2 Slashing

Rare

Command (Lvl 1 Spell): Command a creature to flee, move closer, freeze, drop to the ground, or drop its weapon.

Beyond its slightly amusing name, which is a pirate pun, the Salty Scimitar(rrr) is a fairly standard one-handed weapon with good damage. It does, however, come with one of the most underrated spells in Baldur’s Gate 3, Command. This versatile spell can be used in four different ways to force a target into doing an action.

If players get creative, they can pull off some fairly incredible feats with Command. The Salty Scimitar(rrr) can be looted from Captain Grisly in the basement of The Blushing Mermaid, a tavern in Act 3 of the game.

4 Belm

Base Damage: 3~8

Baldur's Gate 3 Belm (Scimitar)

Damage

Weapon Skills

1d6 + 2 Slashing

Very Rare

Perfectly Balanced Strike: Send Belm snaking out with an adder’s speed, the very exemplar of swiftness embodied in steel.

Belm is easily one of the best Scimitars in Baldur’s Gate 3 given that it has the joint most base damage, as well as the Perfectly Balanced Strike ability which can be used as a Bonus Action.

There are plenty of ways to keep Baldur’s Gate 3 feeling fresh. Here are some options players should consider if they’re starting to feel bored.

However, players will have to wait until Act 3 to get their hands on Belm as it is found in the Lower City of Baldur’s Gate, more specifically in a locked bookcase inside Jaheira’s Hideout Basement.

3 Thorn Blade

1d6 + 1 Slashing

Rare

  • Poisonous Synergy: While concentrating, melee weapon attacks deal an additional 1-4 Poison damage.
  • Ensnaring Strike (Lvl 1 Spell): Possibly Ensnare the target with an attack, each round they take 1d6 damage.

Despite being one of the best Scimitars in Baldur’s Gate 3, the Thorn Blade can be found relatively early on at The Last Light Inn at the start of Act 2. The Tiefling merchant Dammon sells it, as long as no harm has come to him.

While the extra Poison damage on hits can be great, it only comes into effect if the user is concentrating on a spell. The Ensnaring Strike spell, however, that Thorn Blade enables is incredibly strong with the ability to Ensnare a target for 10 turns.

2 Kurwin’s Cauteriser

Base Damage: 3~11

Baldur's Gate 3 Scimitar +1

Damage

Rarity

Weapon Skills

1d6 + 1 Slashing + 1d4 Fire

Uncommon

Cauteriser: Deals an additional 1~4 Fire damage. On a hit, the target starts Burning unless it succeeds a Constitution Saving Throw.

Against enemies who aren’t resistant to fire damage, Kurwin’s Cauteriser is easily one of the highest-damage Scimitars. Given the weapon’s association with fire, it is a great option for players role-playing in Baldur’s Gate 3 as a fire mage.

1 Justiciar’s Scimitar

Base Damage: 3~8

Baldur's Gate 3 Justiciar's Scimitar

Damage

Weapon Skills

1d6 + 2 Slashing

Very Rare

  • Shadow-Blinding: When attacking with Advantage, there is a chance to Blind the target.
  • Shadowsoaked Strike: Strike an enemy, adding Proficiency Bonus to the damage. Moreover, if the attack hits, it also deals an additional 1d6 Psychic damage. This attack doesn’t break concealment.

The Justiciar’s Scimitar is not only arguably the best Scimitar, but it is also one of the best melee weapons in Baldur’s Gate 3 in general. Not only is it on par with the other top Scimitars in terms of flat damage, but it can also deal additional Psychic damage, with impressive damage combos possible on good rolls.

The opportunity to blind targets when attacking with Advantage should not be overlooked either. To find the Justiciar’s Scimitar, players will need to head to the Gauntlet of Shar and kill Lyrthindor who is disguised as a rat.
