Genre(s)
Action-Adventure

Though it’s debatable that it falls squarely into the Metroidvania genre, The Gunk shares enough features with other MEtroidvanias to count as a sci-fi Metroidvania, even if it also takes place in 3D, an unusual feature for the Metroidvania genre which, even in modern day, is often confined to 2D side-scrolling games.

The Gunk is about a pair of scavengers who land on an alien planet that has been corrupted by a black slime that is destroying the environment. Players control Rani, who has a glove capable of collecting the gunk to restore the planet. Once all the gunk is removed from a biome, players can learn more about the environment as the planet begins to flourish again, making for a great allegory and some very fun gameplay.
