Best Mentors In Jujutsu Kaisen

Living in the world of Jujutsu Kaisen is not easy. Not only are there countless deadly curses roaming around and a strict supreme authority of sorcerers overseeing everything, but the main power system of the series, the infamous cursed energy, can be quite tricky to both comprehend and use effectively, especially for people who were not born in this hidden society.

The aspiring sorcerers in Jujutsu Kaisen need reliable mentors who will teach them everything they need to know about their abilities and about the intricate society they’re part of. Luckily, there have been several respectable mentors throughout the series that did their job so efficiently that they were behind some of the best sorcerers in their world.

Jujutsu Kaisen: 13 Best Characters, Ranked

Jujutsu Kaisen is full of colorful characters, and these are among the most memorable of the bunch.

8 Atsuya Kusakabe

He’s A Coward, But His Heart Is In The Right Place

Atsuya Kusakabe protecting Miwa, Momo and Utahime from Kenjaku's attack.

Atsuya Kusakabe is one of the strangest members of the faculty at Tokyo Jujutsu High. As a teacher of the second year students, he was directly responsible for the training of powerful sorcerers, but all of that happened off-screen. On-screen, however, he has been mostly portrayed as a fearful person who’s more worried about his self-preservation.

Kusakabe is actually a very strong fighter, but fear can sometimes get the best of him. However, his mentorship skills have been a big focus of the most recent arc of the manga. He’s one of the few responsible adults left, so he had to guide the younger sorcerers during the battle against Sukuna.

7 Utahime Iori

Taught Some Of The Most Powerful Kyoto Students

Utahime Iori meets up with the Kyoto Students.

Despite being a former classmate of the great Satoru Gojo, and a semi-grade 1 sorcerer herself, not much has been shown about Utahime Iori’s skills and powers. Nevertheless, because of her experience and grade, it can be assumed that she’s quite powerful.

Even more important, Utahime is the main student supervisor at Kyoto Jujutsu High. This school spawned some formidable sorcerers, like Aoi Todo and Kokichi Muta, so their level of experience can definitely be chalked up to their teacher. This is especially true because Utahime has been shown to be very knowledgeable and responsible, so she can be trusted as a mentor and teacher.

6 Miguel

An Enemy Turned Mentor

Miguel showing off his cursed whip.

Miguel is a powerful African sorcerer who went toe-to-toe against Satoru Gojo himself. But after he was defeated, he was so afraid of Gojo that he agreed to train Yuta Okkotsu in Africa for over a year, alongside the community of sorcerers from his homeland.

Not much has been shown or explained about Yuta’s training with Miguel, but when he finally came back to Japan, Yuta was immediately shown to have grown into one of the smartest and most powerful fighters in the entire series, possibly second only to Gojo himself. Whatever Miguel and his peers did back in Africa, it ended up working extremely well for Yuta.

5 Yuki Tsukumo

The Person Behind Todo’s Most Infamous Quirk

Yuki asks Todo what's his favorite type of girl.

Aoi Todo is a strange yet extremely efficient fighter, so whoever mentored him had to be a very respectable sorcerer. And that was none other than Yuki Tsukumo, a special grade sorcerer, and a bit of a rebel who doesn’t agree with the higher-ups of her society.

Here are the strongest of all the cursed techniques in Jujutsu Kaisen.

Many years ago, Yuki met a young Aoi Todo and took him under her wing. She even coined the infamous phrase “What kind of girls do you like?” This not only redefined Todo’s personality, but also became one of the most beloved running gags in Jujutsu Kaisen. While Yuki taught him how to use cursed energy, she also showed him how to live life at its fullest.

4 Masamichi Yaga

The Respectable Principal Of Tokyo Jujutsu High

Masamichi and his dolls, right before Yuji's interview.

As the principal of Tokyo Jujutsu High, Masamichi Yaga is a powerful sorcerer with some unique abilities. He’s the gatekeeper of the school, since he interviews each and every youngster who wants to enter. In turn, he forces them to do some introspection, so they find out why they actually want to become respectable sorcerers.

Because of his role, Principal Yaga acts both as mentor for the students and the teachers who are beneath him, so everybody at the school looks towards him for direction. He even guided Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto back when they were students themselves, and both ended up being some of the most powerful sorcerers in the world. On top of all that, he’s also Panda’s beloved father figure.

3 Aoi Todo

The Most Reliable (And Eccentric) Fighting Partner

Yuji and Todo decide to fight Hanami together.

By the time of the Kyoto Goodwill Event, Yuji Itadori already knew plenty about cursed energy, cursed techniques and jujutsu society. But he still had a lot to learn about fighting. So it’s a good thing he met the one and only Aoi Todo. Even though they were rivals at first, they quickly learned how to work together, especially when they had to fight against Hanami.

Thanks to Todo, Itadori learned how to use his cursed energy more efficiently, and how to fight as a team with a sorcerer with a completely different cursed technique. But Todo also managed to reach Itadori’s heart, as was seen when he was distraught over the possible death of Nobara Kugisaki, Aoi Todo motivated him by telling him to accept that his path as a sorcerer can’t be stopped by feelings of guilt and hopelessness. Todo is a great mentor, in both the physical and emotional sense.

2 Satoru Gojo

The Most Powerful Sorcerer Is Focused On The Next Generation

Gojo laughing alongside Yuji and Megumi.

Many times throughout the series, it was stated that Satoru Gojo is the strongest sorcerer in the entire world, and that society would crumble in his absence. This alone would give Gojo enough reason to do whatever he pleases, but he still decided to focus his time and efforts on training the upcoming generation of sorcerers.

Jujutsu Kaisen: Gojo’s Best Feats, Ranked

These are Gojo Satoru’s most impressive feats in JJK that prove him to be the strongest sorcerer.

He may be seen as a laid back and ridiculous character at first, but Gojo truly knows all the ins and outs of cursed energy and can teach them like no other, even if some of his methods are unconventional. This was especially seen when he taught Yuji Itadori, someone who didn’t belong to jujutsu society, and he managed to get a good hold on this complex power system in just a few days. And that’s not even accounting for all the other strong sorcerers who studied under him, like Megumi Fushiguro and Yuta Okkotsu.

1 Kento Nanami

He Taught Yuji What It Truly Meant To Be A Jujutsu Sorcerer

Yuji and Nanami strategize in order to defeat Mahito.

While Satoru Gojo’s nonchalant personality and unconventional teaching methods can be a breath of fresh air, sometimes it’s important to also be taught by someone who takes things more seriously. And, in the case of Yuji Itadori, Kento Nanami was exactly what he needed. This special grade sorcerer was better at teaching him about his tactical approach.

Behind his reserved demeanor, Nanami is actually an extremely empathetic person who’s always worried about protecting others, even if that puts him in danger. Since he wasn’t graced with the powerful Six Eyes like Gojo, Nanami is as vulnerable as any other sorcerer. So it was important for Yuji to learn all about what it truly means to be part of this society, in ways that Gojo would never have been able to teach him.

This is why Kento Nanami’s unfortunate death was such a tragic moment for Itadori, but his spectacular mentorship has never shined better than with his last words: “You take it from here.” He always knew that he could trust his skilled students, even during his final moments on earth.
