Developed by Ubisoft Quebec, the idea behind Immortals Fenyx Rising was birthed when an issue occurred during the development of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey that caused the human characters to turn into cyclopses. The success of 2018’s Assassin’s Creed Odyssey made Ubisoft confident enough to give the project a thumbs-up, and thus Immortals Fenyx Rising, originally titled Gods and Monsters, began development.
The Longest Ubisoft Games
Ubisoft have developed countless games over the years, but here are the longest that players can sink their time into.
The game was released in December 2020 to a lukewarm reception, scoring between 76 and 82 on the review aggregator Metacritic. Despite the somewhat disappointing scores, Immortals Fenyx Rising was still considered a good title by many people, even if a sequel is likely to never happen. For those that have thoroughly enjoyed the game, or liked the concept but wanted more in terms of the execution, here are some excellent games like Immortals Fenyx Rising that have significant similarities to Ubisoft’s open-world adventure.

There have been a ton of great open-world titles released in recent years, with Immortals Fenyx Rising finding a comfortable spot near the top of the list thanks to its expansive world and engaging combat. It can be pretty challenging at times, but players who are looking for something that will really test their skills should check out Elden Ring. This recent adventure from FromSoftware, creators of the Dark Souls series, is perhaps their most ambitious game to date.
There is so much to see, do, unlock, and conquer throughout the Lands Between. Players could easily put 100 hours into this game, making it a truly long-winded adventure that should keep players on the edge of their seats throughout its entire runtime.

Greek and Roman mythology have always been a solid point of inspiration for video games. Titles like God of War, Age of Mythology, Assassin’s Creed, and even the MOBA Smite have used these mythological characters to great effect. Those that enjoy the mythos surrounding Immortals Fenyx Rising and are craving something else rooted in fables and folklore should feel right at home with the Indie smash-hit, Hades. Although it’s pretty different from the third-person action release, Hades has its own immense charm, making use of a top-down bullet-hell-style rogue-like design.
Players will spend multiple runs trying to claw their way out of the Underworld and meet a colorful cast of fully voice-acted Gods and Goddesses along the way. This is a love letter to the Greek Mythos and an absolute blast to play through.
7 Kena: Bridge Of Spirits

Immortals Fenyx Rising was a pleasant surprise to most players, offering up a beautiful and expansive open world that featured some pretty engaging gameplay. A release that had a similar reception was Kena: Bridge of Spirits. This creation from Ember Lab is breathtaking from a visual standpoint, utilizing the power of the PS4 and PS5 to give players a gorgeous open world to explore.
Past the engrossing design elements, Kena: Bridge of Spirits features solid gameplay, with great combat and exciting boss battles. Players that want to experience something unique and well-received like Immortals Fenyx Rising should check out Kena: Bridge of Spirits, which will hopefully turn into its own franchise.
6 Shadow of the Tomb Raider

Shadow of the Tomb Raider

- Adventure

The rebooted Tomb Raider series has carved itself a spot in the crowded world of modern third-person action-adventures. Although the games have struggled to find themselves among their respective years’ most critically acclaimed titles, they’ve each offered solid, enjoyable adventures akin to the Assassin’s Creed series.
Tomb Raider: 6 Biggest Weaknesses Lara Croft Has
Lara Croft is one of the video game industry’s toughest icons, but even she is far from perfect.
Eidos-Montréal’s game may not have won any game of the year awards, despite being nominated for a handful in the adventure category; though it did win multiple awards for its sound design. The 2019 G.A.N.G. Awards and National Academy of Video Game Trade Reviewers Awards both awarded the Lara Croft adventure for its use of sound.
5 Horizon Zero Dawn
Immersive World & Epic Fights
Horizon: Zero Dawn
- Released
- February 28, 2017
- Metascore
- 89
Much like Immortals Fenyx Rising, Horizon Zero Dawn has been frequently compared to (spoiler alert) The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
Similar to the aforementioned The Pathless, Horizon Zero Dawn puts players in control of a skilled archer and hunter. The game’s excellent open-world is set in a unique post-apocalyptic setting where the land is overrun by animal-like robots. Horizon Zero Dawn was a big hit with fans and critics, and it spawned a very good sequel in Horizon Forbidden West.
4 Genshin Impact
Free Action RPG That Is Top Quality
Genshin Impact
- Released
- September 28, 2020
- Metascore
- 86
Similar to Immortals Fenyx Rising, Genshin Impact was also compared to a certain Nintendo game before its launch; however, the free-to-play RPG did not need long to blast past these comparisons and establish its own identity. An ambitious open-world adventure that is primarily single-player, Genshin Impact is set in Teyvat, a gorgeous fantasy world that is split into a few fairly unique regions.
Genshin Impact: Top 20 Support Characters And How To Use Them
DPS and healers might hog the limelight in Genshin Impact, but support characters are also important. Who are the best supports in the game?
The game utilizes an addictive hack and slash combat system that revolves around 4-character parties, allowing players to quickly swap around between quite a diverse lineup of fighters.
3 God of War (2018)
Kratos Goes Norse
God of War (2018)
- Released
- April 20, 2018
- Metascore
- 94
It could be argued that God of War (2018) is the least like Immortal Fenyx Rising in the sense that it changes its influence from Greek Mythology to Norse Mythology for the first time in the series. However, the latest God of War game earns its spot on this list for its more open level design that was a breath of fresh air for the series.
Although God of War can’t exactly be categorized as an open-world, it should still appeal to fans of Immortals Fenyx Rising for its fantastic world-design, despite the more linear approach.
2 Assassin’s Creed Odyssey
More “Grounded” Greek Epic
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey
- Released
- October 15, 2018
- Metascore
- 83
As mentioned before, Ubisoft Quebec formulated the concept behind Immortals Fenyx Rising when working on Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, so it should come as little surprise that the games have numerous similarities.
The main similarity between the two games is that they both center around Greek mythology. The mythology’s influence doesn’t just affect the game’s story but is seen around every corner of the fantastic open-world that Ubisoft Quebec created. The developer was deservedly recognized for their efforts with the world design, winning the Best Artistic Design accolade at the Titanium Awards.
1 The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Nintendo’s Influential Open-World Masterpiece
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Anyone who has done even surface-level research of Immortals Fenyx Rising will probably have seen comparisons between it and Nintendo’s 2017 Zelda title, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
Similarities include physics-based puzzles, climbable surfaces, and an explorable world that is bursting with color that can be explored on foot, by gliding, or on horseback. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild emphasizes exploration more than Immortals, with the game encouraging players to venture out into the unknown to quench their thirst for discovery. Despite having fairly similar elements, the projects offer quite different experiences overall; however, they are both great open-world games. Tears of the Kingdom is also an obvious recommendation for anyone looking for games like Immortals Fenyx Rising.
