Larian Studios has dropped a not-so-subtle hint on Twitter that “fans of physical media” should “watch this space”, referring to the upcoming Game Awards. That pretty much confirms that a physical version is on its way, for Xbox, PS5, or both.

The tweet also mentioned that “Xbox fans” should watch the event too. It’s obvious why: we’ll finally learn the official Xbox release date, hopefully alongside a lovely box copy. I still can’t resist physical media, even in an industry that seems set on getting rid of it.

When is the Game Awards and What is Baldur’s Gate 3 Nominated For?

The Game Awards takes place on December 7, as a live event. Lots of rumours are swirling about huge announcements, and this is the latest. Remember though: this is the event that, finally, showcased Elden Ring to the world, so it’s got form.

Larian Studios is currently nominated for a whopping eight awards for the following categories:

  • Game of the Year
  • Best Game Direction
  • Best Narrative
  • Best Score and Music
  • Best Performance for Neil Newborn
  • Best Community Support
  • Best RPG
  • Best Multiplayer

That’s an incredible achievement for a studio that was considered an indie just a few short years ago. Baldur’s Gate 3 does currently sit at an unbelievable 96 on Metacritic, which represents ‘Universal Acclaim’.

What Are the Best PC Games of All Time?

That also makes it the joint second best PC game of all time, sitting alongside The Orange Box, Half-Life 2, Half-Life, Grand Theft Auto V, and BioShock. Disco Elysium:  The Final Cut is in first place, with a near-perfect score of 97.

So, if you’re one of the few that hasn’t played it yet, you should absolutely pick it up no matter the platform. We’ll learn more about the Xbox release date on December 7, though you can currently grab it on Steam or PS5.

However, I’d recommend hanging on for that physical edition. It will make for a nice collector’s item for one of the greatest games of all time.
