If you’re unsatisfied with the performance of Baldur’s Gate 3 on your PC and PS5, help is on the way with the next update, thanks to an unexpected ally.
Today Larian Studios’ director of publishing Michael Douse took to X (formerly Twitter) to share more information on what we can expect from the upcoming Patch 5.
According to Douse both the PC version and the PS5 version are getting a performance uplift thanks to all the optimization work that Larian has put into porting the game to the Xbox Series X|S.
On top of that, Douse also teased that the update will be “really good” and will include changes that the developers have been eager to implement, to the point that the performance improvements might be the least exciting part of Patch 5.
Apparently, we’ll hear more tomorrow, albeit we don’t know if this means a reveal or the actual release of the update.
Here’s the message in its entirety.
Patch 5 is really good. Spent the whole day talking with devs & Co. going through it all. They were all so fucking proud of the changes. I can tell a lot of these were “finally, we did *this*!” Interesting thing post launch to see so many of them so keen to perfect the experience
What’s more, performance improvements are coming to both PC and PS5 on behalf of all the work that’s gone into optimising for Xbox. That’s exciting, but also maybe the least exciting thing in Patch 5, to give you an idea of how exciting it is. More tomorrow.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is currently available for PC and PS5, with an Xbox Series X|S version coming in December. The release date will be shared at The Game Awards on December 7.
On top of that, a physical Deluxe Edition is also coming for all platforms in Q1 2024.
Speaking of The Game Awards, Baldur’s Gate 3 is leading the nominations for the show and a couple of weeks ago it won the overall Game of the Year title and a bunch of other accolades at the Golden Joystick Awards.
If you’d like to learn the reason for its success, look no further than our review, which awarded it with a 9.5 out of 10.
