AyaNeo has just announced its second Retro Mini PC, the AM02. Expected to release in late February, it follows on from the AM01 which only released late in 2023. In the space between releases, the specs have been amped up drastically, along with a design that ditches the old Macintosh aesthetic for one matching a SNES.

Most importantly, though, the AyaNeo AM02 features an AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS alongside options of 16GB and 32GB of DDR5 RAM. Options also cover storage sizes between 512GB and 1TB, though there’s also a lightweight ‘barebones’ option that looks perfect for DIY tinkerers and hobby developers to create NAS devices and other personal projects.

Personally, I’ve been using the AyaNeo AM01 as my main PC for quite some time now. Our review is still in the works, though it feels appropriate to note that performance and specs are slightly muted compared to other mini PCs in the price-range. The AM02 rectifies that issue, and immediately renders the previous iteration slightly redundant.

With an AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS packed inside, alongside 5200MHz DDR5 RAM, performance is going to see drastic improvements in gaming especially. While the latest AAA games might be a little out of reach for the original, the AM02’s Ryzen 7 7840HS rocks an AMD Radeon 780M processor with RDNA 3 architecture inside. Elden Ring and Baldur’s Gate 3 don’t seem so untouchable now with the upgraded hardware, and the new lick of paint on the outside does well to distance it from the Macintosh-inspired AM01.

The design conventions employed by the teams working on the AyaNeo Retro Mini PCs are one of the attractions bringing in customers, and the AM02 jumps ahead a few generations in hardware with style. Striking nostalgia in all those who grew up playing on the SNES, an anachronistic addition to the mini PC is the 4-inch touchscreen that doubles up as a hardware monitor and control panel.

The AyaNeo Mini PC AM02 is going to be released in February, and the IndieGogo fundraising campaign is now fully underway.

It will retail between $499 – $799, depending on which spec configuration you go for.
