Ant Middleton confirms big SAS Australia surprise as former star returns to show

Ant Middleton has revealed a major spoiler about the upcoming SAS Australia series.

The former England special forces player, 44, revealed the former fan favorite will make a shock return. Channel Seven challenge series, but not as a competitor.

On Friday, Middleton confirmed that comedian Merrick Watts will be part of the directing (DS), who was an Australian member of DS on the show.

The DS's job is to push the competitors through the course before reporting back to lead instructor Middleton on the competitors' progress and ability.

The father of two said he was in a “bad state of mind” before agreeing to go on the show.

After talking to her doctor, she visited a psychologist and took a 10-week mediation course, but “nothing” worked.

“I felt like I was wearing myself out,” Watts said during an interview with Noah's Fitzy and Whippa at the time.

'I did everything right, I spoke to a psychologist, I spoke to my doctor, I did a 10-week meditation course. Nothing works. I knew I needed to rebuild my faith.

Watts said going to SAS Australia would help him “rebuild his confidence”.

'I am more efficient when I am confident. “I go back into my shell when I don't have confidence… I knew that the preparation process for SAS Australia alone would be enough to get my confidence back and I was right,” he explained.

'I look at myself, a year ago when I signed up for this program I was in the worst mood I've ever been in. I see myself after a year and I am in better physical and mental condition. “I have been all my life.”

And he concluded: “It's really good for my mind and my body.”

When SAS appeared in Australia, Watts confessed his hope of making it big after losing his radio career some three years earlier.

For 20 years I worked in radio and had amazing success. I had a number one radio show, got massive ratings and made a lot of money. It's a very good moment. It's already done,” he reflected when asked by SAS operational staff.

But suddenly there came a time when I didn't have much work. There was a moment where I said, “What's next for me? Who am I? What am I going to do?

'I lost my confidence, I lost my strength and myself. Little by little it began to manifest as anxiety and depression.

Watts admitted that her struggle with anxiety and depression is what inspired her to sign up for the program.

'I'm doing this course to completely change myself from what I was. Everyone knows me as a happy guy…' he explained.

But I haven't felt that way in a while. And I want to feel it again.'
