- Animal Crossing Pocket Camp will sadly close its servers in November
- But it’s not all bad news as an update to make the game available offline is coming in October
- It follows a wave of game closures this year that overshadows some great releases
Animal Crossing Pocket Camp, a mobile spin-off of the super-popular Nintendo franchise, is set to shutter. Another victim of what has been a sadly quite prolific year for game closures on mobile, Animal Crossing Pocket’s servers will close down on November 28th for good.
But, it’s not all bad news. Following a similar tactic employed by Neowiz’s Brave Nine, it has been confirmed that Animal Crossing Pocket will receive an update that allows you to continue playing it offline, set to arrive sometime in October before the game is set to close.
It’s not entirely clear how things will function with downloading the game after it’s been shuttered, however, you will be able to move your current save over to this new version. Still, it’s a chilling reminder of just how easy it is for things to be shut down even in what has been a prolific year for launches.
Bye-bye Animal Crossing
While it’s always a shame when games are set to shutter, I think we should welcome the recent move to make them available offline. People tend to punch down a bit on games like Pocket Camp, but just the fact that the developers are going to the effort to keep them alive even past the shutting-down of the servers is commendable.
In any case, fortunately, the mobile game development scene is very much alive as well. Although that might be cold comfort with so many games facing the axe. The latest entry in our regular feature of the top five new mobile games to try this week highlights some incredible recent releases.
