Alaska, Colorado and Massachusetts begin absentee voting

Alaska, Colorado and Massachusetts began absentee voting on Friday, joining the vast majority of US states. 2024 elections underway

Including the trio of states, 44 states AND Washington, D.C., now offer some form of early voting.

Key election contests in states with early voting today

There are three competitive House districts across the state that begin voting today:

• Largest district in Alaska: In 2022, moderate Democrat Mary Peltola pulled off a historic upset by defeating former governor Sarah Palin in the final round of the state's ranked-choice voting. This year, Republicans are hoping second-term candidate Nick Begich will return the state to the GOP. Peltola made the fishing industry the focus of his campaign; Begich emphasizes energy policy. • Colorado's 3rd District: The 3rd District covers most of western Colorado. Thanks to its rural, working-class population (Aspen is an exception), it has been reliably Republican for more than a decade. But in 2022, the race was down to just 546 votes. Incumbent Republican Lorraine Boebert is moving into safe Republican territory this year, making it a toss-up between her former Democratic challenger Adam Frisch and Republican lawyer Jeff Hurd. • Colorado's 8th District: The 8th District starts in rural Weld County, which Trump won by 18 points in 2020. But the further you go down, the more suburban it becomes. Strong Democratic turnout in Adams County, which Biden won by 16 points, gave Democratic Rep. Yadira Karaveo her first victory of 2022. This time, the incumbent is running against Republican state politician Gabe Evans. This is a throw it up race

Alaska residents can register to vote in person on Election Day. The deadline to apply online or by mail was October 6th.
