We’re midway through October, with the heaviest hitters set to launch in the coming weeks. That includes Remedy Entertainment’s Alan Wake 2, which launches on October 27th (after a delay to avoid competing with Marvel’s Spider-Man 2). It promises over 20 hours of gameplay, but there are also two expansions coming post-launch.
That’s not all, as the survival horror title will also receive free DLC, per Remedy’s creative director Sam Lake. At EGX Theatre (transcription via MP1st), Lake said, “We’ve talked about cool things, with music, and with live action. We haven’t gone really far into explaining any of the DLC material. For sure, we have named the actual bigger paid DLCs, Night Springs, which might be something that rings bells, and the Lake House.
“But beyond that, we do have free DLC drops coming. They, too, are pretty significant, and I’m expecting us to be going more into detail pretty soon after the game is out. But all that will be free for anyone who gets the game.”
What this free DLC could be remains to be seen, but perhaps it will be similar to Control, the developer’s supernatural third-person shooter. Protagonist Jesse Faden received new costumes and the rogue-like Expeditions mode for free, while the two story expansions, The Foundation and AWE, were paid.
Alan Wake 2 launches next week for Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC via the Epic Games Store. It’s a digital-only release, costing $60 on consoles and $50 on PC, a strategy that ensures more time for polish per game director Kyle Rowley.
