Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition has just rolled out its latest release, update 93001. This update brings several balance changes, improvements, and bug fixes. However, the most exciting aspect of this latest update is the addition of two classic Age of Empires campaigns to the Return of Rome DLC—Ascent of Egypt and The First Punic War campaign. Alongside these campaigns, a brand-new Return of Rome event has also been introduced.
Following the DLC’s release in May 2023, Xbox Game Studios ran a poll, allowing players to decide which campaigns will come back and be playable in Return of Rome apart from the already announced Ascent of Egypt and The First Punic War. The poll results revealed that Glory of Greece and Voices of Babylon were the preferred choices among the player community.
Today, players can finally explore the Ascent of Egypt and The First Punic War campaigns within Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition‘s Return of Rome expansion. This also implies that the Glory of Greece and Voices of Babylon campaigns will be arriving very soon in upcoming updates.
In the Ascent of Egypt campaign, players will follow the creation of the Old Kingdom of Egypt, allowing them to learn the skills and strategies to guide their civilization to victory across 12 scenarios. Each scenario is designed to help players master their fundamentals and practice a specific skill, including exploring the map, building economy, and even converting enemy units.
The First Punic War campaign places players in command of the mighty Carthaginian Empire in their war against the aggressive, Roman Empire. Through three epic scenarios, players must push back the Roman invasion, destroy their supply lines, and erect a monument to the strength of Carthage.
