Warning: If you haven't seen the latest episode of “Agatha All Along,” you'll need a protection mantra or two. This article contains Big spoilers.
It's been almost four long years since the events of “Wandavision” in the real world and in-universe in “Agatha All Along,” which means some outstanding threads remain unresolved. We can only assume that poor Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn) has no choice but to act out her comedy fantasy under the spell of Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) until the introverted crime show premieres. An unanswered question is whether the rest of the inhabitants of the Marvel Cinematic Universe really knew what happened in Westview, that statue the size of an eternity trapped somewhere in the middle of the ocean. But episode 6, “Familiar By Thy Side,” finally began to fill in the blanks with nearly an hour of flashback stories, and in the process, we now have the first hints of where another missing character might have ended up.
So where in the world is the vision? You may remember that in the finale of “WandaVision,” our favorite android robot disappeared before Wanda's eyes (along with her “twins” Billy and Tommy). Of course, this version wasn't always the “true” vision in “Wandavision,” as Thanos killed him in “Avengers: Infinity War.” Beyond that, however, we have to wait for the next series tentatively titled “Vision Quest” to receive more updates… until now. A couple of clues from the latest episode of “Agatha All Along” further tease Vision's location, and their implications are less promising.
Agatha further hints at All Along Vision's dark fate
For the rest of the world, the “dispute” in Westview could very well be an open and shut case. In episode 6 of “Agatha All Along,” we are shown that Wanda is missing and presumed dead after the events of “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.” For ordinary citizens like William Kaplan (the real identity of Joe Locke's “Dean”) and his boyfriend Eddie (Miles Gutierrez-Riley), the entire hex surrounding the city is an Avengers training exercise gone wrong. And as for the view? Ralph Boehner's (Evan Peters) unexpected return as a traumatized conspiracy theorist and Agatha's misgivings mean her body is still under the control of the sword. Both make passing references to his body being “dismembered” or resting in several pieces. Darkness!
But wait, let's back up. As revealed in the final episode of “WandaVision,” we find out that Wanda was shown what happened to her late lover's body: after the events of “Infinity War,” it was recovered by a secret organization called SWORD and without knowing it, dismembered him. She scientists set to work resurrecting the lifeless android and turning it into a weapon of mass destruction, releasing it in the form of “White Vision” on Westview. At the end of the series, White Vision's fate remains unclear as his memories are fully restored, he declares himself the True Vision, and he floats into the Unknown Regions.
So what is the truth of the matter?
Solving the mystery of the white eye
Even beyond affirming “Dean's” true identity as Wiccan, the unholy reincarnation of Wanda's son Billy Maximoff, “Agatha All Along,” achieved its biggest narrative breakthrough by recirculating the mystery surrounding the Vision. Otherwise, the fan-favorite robot has been out of sight for years, out of mind with a passing note. That loose end involving White Vision in “WandaVision” was too striking to ignore, so fans now have something to look forward to. Other A spin-off series in the next few years to finally get some answers.
For now, Vision's whereabouts remain a mystery. MCU characters like Ralph Boehner and Agatha can only guess that SWORD has fully utilized its various robot parts at this point. But we, as viewers, know that the franchise has more plans to stick to. The “Vision” series has given us very few updates, suggesting the return of James Spader's Ultron (sort of) and the fact that “Star Trek: Picard” showrunner Terry Modells will direct the show. The actual plot is under wraps and won't be until production wraps, soon of course. For now, despite the practical narratives seen in the latest episode of “Agatha All Along,” the only thing that is clear is that White Vision is still out there somewhere. The “Vision” series doesn't seem to be at the forefront of Kevin Feige's plans lately, but things might be changing a bit in the MCU and those hints appearing in “Agatha All Along” could be taken as confirmation for the show. It will arrive soon.
Until then, fans can watch new episodes of “Agatha All Along” every Wednesday night on the Disney+ stream.
