THE MUNDANE GAMES

The Olympic Games have become mundane. Not all mundane games and competitions, but close to it.

How much did these Games cost? An insane amount, and all that money could have been better used elsewhere. This also goes for the stupid cost of the World Cup being held in North America in 2026.

The Olympics are not really about the Games anymore. At one time, athletes trained hard and their reward was a spot on their country’s team. It was not for pampered, whiny professionals to just basically play in an all-star tournament. And, yes, that’s all it is. From basketball to tennis to golf and so on. And in 2028 in Los Angeles, baseball will return.

The true spirit of the Games was lost a long time ago. It is a shame because they used to be fun to watch as most outcomes were never decided until the final dive or right at the finish line.

Not now. Seriously, was there any doubt about the multimillionaire U.S. basketball team winning gold? Ho hum. Boring.

Time to scale back and kick the professional players out. The Games have become glorified all-star matches.

OH, THOSE ‘MEAN TWEETS’

Liberal MP Holly Doan thinks what she calls “mean tweets” result in us “slowly losing our democracy.” What a joke. I suppose she thinks our so-called Liberal/NDP government is democracy. She likely thinks any legitimate, valid, honest criticism of the Liberals is mean. She sounds like Mark Holland, who thinks most criticism of his Liberals is “toxic.”

They seem to be laying the groundwork for their thought police in their proposed Orwellian Bill C-63. I’ll never stop saying exactly what I think.

BEST TO KEEP QUIET, JENICA

Re: Lax refugee screening a welcome mat for terrorists, Lorne Gunter column, Aug. 11

First of all, what kind of a fool would want to loosen Canada’s screening procedures for refugees from anywhere, let alone a country known for terrorists? Oh, yes, a Liberal MP. What a surprise.

Secondly, how could this idea in any way benefit Canadians? Perhaps Liberal MP Jenica Atwin may not want to voice her stupid ideas out loud.
