‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ Season 2 trailer embraces the darkness

The latest trailer for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2 is the darkest one yet.

Sauron’s (Charlie Vickers) influence continues to spread across Middle-earth. Orc armies are on the march, barrow-wights are creeping around, and corruption threatens the realms of Elves, Dwarves, and Men. It’s safe to say things aren’t looking good for Eregion, Khazad-dûm, and Númenor. As if that weren’t enough, Sauron appears to be psychologically torturing smith Celebrimbor (Charles Edwards) in an effort to get more Rings of Power. Leave him alone!

Luckily, all is not lost. Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) and Elrond (Robert Aramayo) work to fight against the oncoming darkness, and they’re not alone. All over Middle-earth, people like Durin IV (Owain Arthur), Arondir (Ismael Cruz Córdova), and Elanor Brandyfoot (Markella Kavenagh) are ready to do their part in the war to come. Even orc leader Adar (Sam Hazeldine) seems ready to team up with Galadriel to take down Sauron. (We’ll see how that goes.)

On top of sneak peeks of the Balrog, Shelob, and Entwives, the trailer also gives viewers a look at a fearsome sword fight between Sauron and Galadriel. We only get about two seconds of it, but the way Sauron looks at Galadriel could fuel weeks’ worth of Haladriel fanfic. Get on it, team.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2 premieres Aug. 29 on Prime Video.
