Katawa Shoujo finally getting modern release on Steam and itchi.io

Indie developer Four Leaf Studios has announced acclaimed visual novel Katawa Shoujo will be re-released on modern platforms.

Katawa Shoujo is coming to modern Windows platforms via Steam and itch.io on August 15th, the developer announced.

The Steam version is an all-ages release but adult content can be installed with an R18 patch, via its Itch.io page. As in the previous releases, it will be free.

Katawa Shoujo is a visual novel developed from sketches from Raita Honjou in the mid-2000s. The sketch grew popular on the image board 4chan and a team of both Japanese and non-Japanese developers created the game, with the initial release in 2012.

Since its original release in 2012, Katawa Shoujo was only available as a direct download from the game’s official site and Bittorrent.

The story is set in Yamaku High School in Sendai, Japan, where numerous students with disabilities study. Hisao Nakai, a boy with a poor heart, transfers to the school after a heart attack and meets five students, all with different disabilities and quirks, and as the novel progress, the player must choose and choose wisely which girl would be Hisao’s significant other.
