As RedState reported, the speech Joe Biden gave from the Oval Office Wednesday night to explain why he was forced out chose to withdraw from the presidential race at this stage in the game was, in a nutshell, a “nothing speech” – as described by my colleague Bob Hoge – with Handler in Chief Jill Biden’s facial expressions saying everything.
Though he stopped short of doing what his fellow Democrats have done – bizarrely comparing him to America’s first president, George Washington – the speech was chock full of insinuations about how he was supposedly making some big sacrifice, “passing the torch” to a younger generation in order to “save democracy” or whatever.

But while Biden didn’t bring up the Washington reference, his apologists in the mainstream press wasted no time in picking up the Democrat talking point and running wild with it.
For instance, here’s CNN anchor Abby Phillip proclaiming without evidence that “this moment puts him with a bunch of American greats, this sort of George Washingtons of the world”:
He has — this moment puts him with a bunch of American greats, this sort of George Washingtons of the world. He’s stepping away from power if he stays in that lane, I think that will be so much more powerful and impactful.

New York Times White House correspondent Katie Rogers talked about how the photos of the Biden family, some of who were present for Biden’s speech, were the essence of BidenWorld:
These photos are fascinating and really sort of illustrate the whole Biden story. Pain, ambition, resilience present in each frame. https://t.co/0ET4dgBayi

Not mentioned was exactly where the photo was of Biden’s seventh grandchild, Navy Roberts.
CBS News chief campaign correspondent Robert Costa seemed close to tears in describing the photo of Joe Biden hugging his son, convicted felon Hunter Biden:
A powerful photo. The hand toward his father’s face. The eyes. Put aside politics and everything related for a moment, and viewed simply on a human level, you see two men, father and son, still at each other’s side, more than a half-century since the darkness of Dec. 18, 1972. pic.twitter.com/36DcS8rFgs

And gosh darn, wouldn’t you know it, there was ice cream for everyone – including the Ministry of Truth White House press corps! How cute?!
To be clear, staffers on hand told reporters the White House served ice cream for everyone.

It was quite the amazing turnaround from the press from how they eagerly joined alongside panicked Democrats to knife Biden in the back on the issue of his nomination because it became clear he was unlikely to beat Donald Trump. Then again, Biden did exactly what they wanted him to do, and in turn, they scratched his back as well to give him the fawning “he is doing a heroic thing” coverage he wanted as he prepares to head out the door in a few months.
The Hill columnist T. Becket Adams implored the press to have some self-respect as their fangirl-type reactions poured in:
I am once again begging journalists to please, PLEASE have a little self respect. You are worth it. You are loved. pic.twitter.com/rXsigd8IZV

That assumes they had any to begin with, of course.
