When it comes to the World of Darkness series, or Chronicles of Darkness as it became following a reboot, the most popular is probably Vampire: The Masquerade, largely in part to the video game. It is now time to experience another of the titles, as Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Purgatory launches today.
Developed by Different Tales, this functions as a sequel of sorts to their 2020 PC and console game; Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Heart of the Forest. It was pretty well received – the team over in Poland really know what they are doing it seems. Luckily, Purgatory is releasing on mobile this time so we can experience it. Unluckily for any Android folks, though, it’s only on iOS.
Purgatory follows the story of Samira, an Afghan refugee who also gets hit with the double whammy of being a Werewolf as she flees her homeland. Winding up in Warsaw, she will get caught up in investigating the supernatural secrets under the surface. Will Samira fall into the despair of her past and current consequences, or fully embrace the beast inside and fight? That is down to you.
Taking inspiration from the source, specifically the fifth edition corebook, Purgatory is a a blend of visual novel and RPG with two distinct story paths to follow, each with its own challenges and consequences. You are able to tap into your power and change into a multitude of forms to get the job done how you like. Stay human and try to talk and reason your way through situations, or shift to the hulking Crinos and destroy everything in sight.
Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Purgatory will be available from theApp Store. If you have played the previous title, Heart of the Forst, you might notice a few familiar faces pop up, however, it is not required at all to enjoy Purgatory, so mobile players can dive right in.
