World Leaders React to Assassination Attempt on Donald Trump – RedState

It’s been just a little over 12 hours since former President Donald Trump was shot at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, in a failed assassination attempt. While Americans are still reeling from the shocking news, the rest of the world is also responding, with world leaders largely expressing their dismay and concern over the heinous act.

The former president has received an outpouring of support from G7 leaders as well as others. Below, a sampling of the reactions from across the world.

From the newly installed UK Prime Minister, Keir Starmer:

I am appalled by the shocking scenes at President Trump’s rally and we send him and his family our best wishes.

Political violence in any form has no place in our societies and my thoughts are with all the victims of this attack.

From Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi:

Deeply concerned by the attack on my friend, former President Donald Trump. Strongly condemn the incident. Violence has no place in politics and democracies. Wish him speedy recovery.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the deceased, those injured and the American people.

From French President Emmanuel Macron:

[Translation]: My thoughts to President Donald Trump, victim of an assassination attempt, to whom I wish a speedy recovery. One activist died, several were injured. It is a tragedy for our democracies. France shares the shock and indignation of the American people.

From Argentinian President Javier Milei (who’s had a good deal to say about the horrific incident, placing the blame squarely on “the international left”):

[Translation]: All my support and solidarity to President and candidate Donald Trump, victim of a COWARDLY assassination attempt that put his life and that of hundreds of people at risk.

The desperation of the international left is not surprising, as today it sees its harmful ideology expire, and is willing to destabilize democracies and promote violence to screw itself into power. In fear of losing at the polls, they resort to terrorism to impose their retrograde and authoritarian agenda.

I hope for the speedy recovery of President Trump and that the elections in the United States are held fairly, peacefully and democratically.

RFK Jr. Calls on Americans to Pray for Trump After Rally Shooting

From Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau:

I’m sickened by the shooting at former President Trump. It cannot be overstated — political violence is never acceptable. My thoughts are with former President Trump, those at the event, and all Americans.

From Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu:

Sara and I were shocked by the apparent attack on President Trump. We pray for his safety and speedy recovery.

From German Chancellor Olaf Scholz:

The attack on US presidential candidate Donald Trump is despicable. I wish him a speedy recovery. My thoughts are also with all of those who were affected by the attack. Such acts of violence threaten democracy.

From Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese:

The incident at former President Trump’s campaign event in Pennsylvania today is concerning and confronting. There is no place for violence in the democratic process.

I am relieved to hear reports that former President Trump is now safe.

From Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni:

I am following with apprehension the updates from Pennsylvania, where the 45th President of the United States @realDonaldTrump was shot during a rally. My solidarity and my best wishes for a speedy recovery go to him, with the hope that the next few months of the electoral campaign will see dialogue and responsibility prevail over hatred and violence. #Trump

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida:

We must stand firm against any form of violence that challenges democracy. I pray for former President Trump’s speedy recovery.

And from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky:

I am appalled to learn about the shooting of former U.S. President Donald Trump at his rally in Pennsylvania.

Such violence has no justification and no place anywhere in the world. Never should violence prevail.

I am relieved to learn that Donald Trump is now safe and wish him a speedy recovery. My condolences go out to the close ones of this attack’s victim, a rally attendee.

I extend my wishes for strength to everyone who is horrified by this event. I wish America emerges stronger from this.

There’s no indication of a direct response from Russia’s Vladimir Putin, but his spokesperson, Dmitry Peskov, in an instance of making a salient point while likely appreciating the opportunity to stir the pot, weighed in:

“We do not believe that the attempt to eliminate and assassinate Trump was organised by the current authorities,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.

But the atmosphere around candidate Trump … provoked what America is confronting today.”

China’s foreign ministry has also expressed concern over the attack:

Chinese Foreign Ministry said in a statement that China is concerned about the attack and President Xi Jinping has already extended his sympathies to Trump.
