A text message exchange between Oscar-winning actor Tom Hanks and his son Chet Hanks has finally simplified the feud between rappers Drake and Kendrick Lamar — and the internet is grateful.
Chet, a musician and rapper himself, explained what has been happening between Canadian rapper Drake and American rapper Kendrick Lamar. Chet took screenshots of the texts between him and his father, posting them on his Instagram stories, according to People.

The explanation was prompted by Tom asking Chet to break down the “Drake/Kendrick Lamar feud” for him.
Diving into the backstory, Chet said the feud was fuelled by Lamar, who dissed Drake and American rapper J. Cole.
“Drake and this dude J. Cole been saying they along with Kendrick are the ‘Big 3’ in rap,” wrote Chet. “Then Kendrick put out a song saying, ‘F— the Big 3, it’s just big ME,’ initiating the beef.”
The song Chet referred to is called Like That by Lamar, producer Metro Boomin and rapper Future. After Like That was released, a barrage of insults were sent back and forth between Drake and Lamar.
Drake joked about Lamar having small feet because of his height. Lamar rebutted with retorts about Drake being a “dead beat dad and made fun of his Canadian accent,” said Chet.
The two rappers then exchanged more serious allegations, with Lamar dropping a “West Coast banger” that “dismantled Drake’s entire psyche,” according to Chet.
To simplify it in terms Chet’s actor father could understand, Chet explained that Lamar’s diss was the “sonic equivalent” of when Tom brought Chet back to visit his former high school in Oakland.

“We walked in on the basketball game and everybody started going nuts,” he wrote.
The diss solidified Lamar’s win over Drake, according to Chet, “not only for Kendrick but the entire West Coast.”
Tom was taken aback by the “beef.”
“Holy cow!” he responded to Chet. “These are fighting words.”
Those who read the explanation online were thankful that it had been simplified for them.
“This actually clears a few things up for me,” one person wrote on Reddit, thanking Chet.
“Turns out that Chet has a very useful talent: explaining complicated beefs in simple ways,” another Reddit user wrote. “Colour me surprised.”
Drake and Lamar have been making headlines recently for their ongoing public feud. Earlier in May, Drake’s Toronto mansion was the scene of a police investigation after a security guard working on the property was shot and sent to hospital in serious condition.
Police did not reveal a possible motive at the time, however, there was speculation that it was related to Drake’s feud with Lamar.
