YOU SAID IT: Climate change and the cause

Re: HARRIS: Conservative leaders must stop promoting climate scare, online, April 9

The question of whether there is climate change and whether it is caused by human activity are two distinct issues. It matters to humanity whether the Greenland and Antarctic ice fields are melting regardless of the cause.

Similarly, it matters whether glaciers are melting at an unusual rate. I do not want to see New York City flooded regardless of the cause in the rise in ocean levels. In other parts of the world, cities face river flooding caused by glaciers melting. We should take measures to reduce such flooding even if it is part of a natural cycle.

If, at some point in the future, our descendants face another ice age, they should take measures to artificially warm the climate. I would not want to see much of Europe and central Canada covered by kilometre-thick ice sheets.

BROWN-BAGGING IT

Re: LILLEY: Ford orders LCBO to bring back paper bags. It’s about time! Online, April 8

Good on Ontario’s premier for requesting that the LCBO, which is making money hand over fist, re-introduce the paper bag.

Bowing to the green mob, those in charge of the booze monopoly decided that they would go green. One must remember that you can never satisfy this Gaia gang no matter what one does.

Personally, I think this whole outfit should be privatized; however, in the meantime, it can be a little more accommodating to its customers.

MONEY FOR NOTHING

I’m a retired senior citizen living on a modest income. Since I don’t own a car and spend very little on food, I assume I get back more than I contribute insofar as the carbon tax is concerned.

So, for all Canadians who pay the carbon tax, what exactly does this do to reduce CO2 emissions? I don’t think even the Liberal government knows. To me, all it appears to do is increase the cost of living for us all.
