New Pokemon GO players are always on the lookout to catch some exciting Pokemon and make progress towards the Pokedex. Celebi is one of the mythical Pokemon that can be caught at any time.
In order to get the Celebi Special Research, A Ripple in Time, players will need to first complete the seventh step of A Mythical Discovery special research, which gives players a chance to catch Mew. In order to unlock A Mythical Discovery, players will need to reach level 15. Like the quest to catch Mew, the Ripple in Time Special Research quest to catch Celebi is broken down into eight steps with multiple objectives that have to be completed if players hope to catch the rare Pokemon.

Can You Get Shiny Celebi In Pokemon GO?
Yes, and no. While shiny Celebi has been available in Pokemon GO, it is not possible to get it on a regular day via the A Ripple in Time special research. This means that the Celebi players encounter at the end of the special research will always be shiny-locked. If players are looking for a shiny one instead, they will need to wait until Niantic organizes another event for the shiny variant of the Pokemon.

How To Complete Step 1 Of Celebi Special Research
The first step is fairly straightforward, but it is one that Pokemon GO players will want to get a jump on if they hope to complete multiple steps as fast as possible. Players can take part in any raids for this task, and it doesn’t have to be a specific star or raid type as such. The other objectives are self-explanatory, though players should note that they can power up any Pokemon in their roster – it doesn’t have to be the same Pokemon five times.
How To Complete Step 2 Of Celebi Special Research
Right off the bat, anyone hoping to blaze through the Celebi Special Research in Pokemon GO will hit a roadblock with the second step. Making three new friends is actually fairly easy; if there is no one that you know in real life to add, just visit a Pokemon GO forum, and it shouldn’t be too hard to find someone to add to the friends list.
With that said, catching a Pokemon three days in a row means that players will have to legitimately wait at least three days to get through this step. As for evolving an evolved grass-type, that simply means evolving a second-stage grass-type Pokemon to its final form. Examples of evolved grass-type Pokemon would be Ivysaur or Bayleef, but it doesn’t really matter which Pokemon players use for this step.
How To Complete Step 3 Of Celebi Special Research
Players can get a Sun Stone from completing the previous step, so it shouldn’t be too difficult to evolve a Gloom or Sunkern. Raids are one of the fastest ways to level up quickly in Pokemon GO, so players should make the most of that to reach level 25 quickly. Last but not least, if players want to speed up the process of hatching eggs, they can use Super Incubators.
How To Complete Step 4 Of Celebi Special Research
Most of the time, Pokemon GO players would want to use the name trick to evolve their Eevee into the desired Pokemon, but that’s not necessary here. Espeon and Umbreon have a different evolution method, where players can walk with an Eevee for 10km, and then if they evolve that Eevee during the day, it will evolve into Espeon. For the name trick, players have to name their Eevee Sakura.
The naming method for Eevee only works once.
How To Complete Step 5 Of Celebi Special Research
The naming trick could technically work here again, but players can just walk with an Eevee for 10km and then evolve that Eevee when it’s nighttime. To tell if it’s night in Pokemon GO, just look at the map and if the world is darker, it’s night in the game. Players can name the Eevee Tamao to bypass this.
How To Complete Step 6 Of Celebi Special Research
This step seems designed to keep players from completing the Special Research too fast, as it requires them to catch Pokemon for a week straight before they can move on to the next step. While this may end up being one of the lengthier steps of the Special Research quest, it will at least be easy to complete. Players can use the evolution items earned in the previous steps to evolve Pokemon in their roster to complete the final objective.
How To Complete Step 7 Of Celebi Special Research
Catching 40 Grass or Psychic-type Pokemon will be quite a feat, but there are some fairly common Grass-type Pokemon lying around. Making an excellent curve throw can be tricky, but considering that players need only one of them, it shouldn’t ideally take that long. Last but not least, for the Johto Gold Medal, players will need to catch 70 Pokemon from the Johto region.
