The Star Wars: Unlimited Shadows of the Galaxy announcement
According to an official blog post by Fantasy Flight Games, Star Wars: Unlimited Shadows of the Galaxy will bring more than 250 new cards to the card game. While the first set, Spark of Rebellion, focused more on the Rebels and Galactic Empire, this set will bring in seedier characters from the Outer Rim.
To that end, three new gameplay mechanics will be introduced in this new set. Two of those mechanics are “bounties” and “capture,” both thematically appropriate for this set.
Star Wars: Unlimited Shadows of the Galaxy will launch with a set of two-player starter set. The set will contain two pre-built decks. These decks will feature Moff Gideon and The Mandalorian as leaders.
Moff Gideon is part of a Vigilance and Command deck built around overwhelming opponents. His ability powers up units that cost 3 or less, and while he is deployed on his unit side, those same units gain Overwhelm. A perfect card that synergizes with this buff is the Phase-III Dark Trooper.
When paired with other cards like Calculated Lethality, which lets you take out one of your opponents upgraded units and provide extra experience tokens to that Dark Trooper, that pressure increases. Finally, deploying Gideon’s Light Cruiser lets you bring back one of these Dark Troopers for free.
Contrasting this playstyle is The Mandalorian’s deck which emphasizes Cunning and Vigilance. Mando’s ability lets you exhaust an enemy unit when you play an upgrade. This is crucial to the deck’s playstyle since it is about shutting down units.
An example given is the deck’s Wanted card. This puts a Bounty on an attached unit, which allows you to capture that enemy unit with another card effect. Capturing a unit generates resources. This means if played effectively, The Mandalorian’s deck can not just greatly limit enemy options, but gradually snowball into a fierce resource engine.
Also yes, Grogu has a card in Mando’s deck. Enjoy.
